Every woman wants to be beautiful and always look irresistible. But in order to remain attractive and young for a long time, it is very important to properly and regularly care for your appearance. It depends only on ourselves what state our skin will be in, because it subtly reacts to all the changes occurring in the body.
The skin is directly involved in the process of cleansing the body and provides its reliable protection from various external negative factors. All errors in diet and lifestyle are primarily reflected on the skin. It may show signs of cellulite, unsightly stretch marks, rashes and inflammation. That is why it is so important to care for it properly and regularly.
Features of using a homemade body scrub
The basis of proper body skin care is its timely cleansing of dead cells and impurities. Simple water procedures will not be enough for this, because you still need to exfoliate dead skin particles using a cosmetic product such as a scrub.
On store shelves today there are a large number of different types of scrubs designed to care for different skin types. But you can make a scrub yourself at home, using only natural ingredients. In addition, homemade cosmetics have a number of advantages over store-bought counterparts.
To prepare homemade scrubs, only natural products will be used, so they do not contain preservatives, stabilizers or fragrances. If you make a scrub yourself, you can know exactly how the skin reacts to the components used.
It is recommended to use the scrub no more than 1-2 times a week. After the procedure of cleansing the body's skin with a scrub, the activation of metabolic processes occurring in skin cells begins. The pores are cleansed of accumulated fat. As a result, the surface of the skin becomes smooth and soft to the touch. Regular use of scrubs can improve skin tone, remove minor stretch marks and unevenness.
It is best to use scrubs in the evening, after a shower or bath, on damp and warm skin. A small amount of scrub is applied to pre-cleansed skin, a light massage is performed for a few minutes, then the remaining product is washed off with warm water. Don't rub the skin too hard to try to remove the top layer of skin. Such actions can lead to thinning of the skin and the onset of inflammation.
Advice from cosmetologists
Leading cosmetologists know about the benefits of body peelings. And yet, there are a number of nuances that some clients in salons who want to use this procedure do not always take into account.
- It is necessary to do body peeling in the off-season. This is due to the fact that from spring to summer the skin must be prepared for exposure to ultraviolet rays. It is necessary to do peeling when it is still cool and the sun is not so active. You will be able to avoid burns.
- Before winter, it is also recommended to cleanse the skin well, since over the summer it has accumulated a lot of dirt and toxins.
- If this is your first time performing a peeling procedure, use gentle ingredients, and only then move on to more serious ones.
- If you intend to go to the beach or solarium, you need to exfoliate your skin 3-4 hours before your trip. This way, the sun will fall on the skin better and more evenly, and the tan will be even and rich.
- You should not exfoliate more than twice a week, otherwise you may injure your skin.
- Before using any composition on yourself, test it on the crook of your elbow. Then you will be able to protect yourself from a severe allergic reaction.
- You should not trust a specialist to do acid peeling if you are not sure of his qualifications. Working with strong acids always involves some risk, so a massage therapist or cosmetologist must be professionals and have the appropriate certifications and licenses.
- Homemade peeling composition should be used once and then discarded. It is not recommended to store the homemade product for longer than a few hours. Otherwise, fermentation processes may begin in it - by introducing funds into the wound, you can provoke suppuration, and so on.
- If you have sensitive body skin, then it is recommended to avoid peeling or use its most gentle options.
Peeling is a real pleasure. Therefore, if you want to pamper yourself with a new procedure that will give you a healthy appearance and lightness, immediately sign up for a salon. And if you combine peeling with a visit to the spa, you will experience real pleasure from the procedures offered to you.
We wish you real pleasure and also prepare your skin for the upcoming warm season. An even and beautiful tan is the best thing summer can give you.
Coffee body scrubs - the best homemade recipes
One of the most popular and effective means for maintaining beautiful and youthful skin is simple coffee. This product can be used to make homemade scrubs. However, in this case, only natural brewed coffee will do; there will be no benefit from the instant analogue.
Classic coffee scrub
- For the scrub, use the coffee grounds that remain after preparing this aromatic drink.
- Add 1 tsp. rich homemade sour cream or vegetable oil.
- All components are thoroughly mixed and the resulting composition is applied to damp skin.
- A light massage is performed for a few minutes, but do not press too hard.
- The scrub is left on the skin for 10 minutes.
If you add sour cream or vegetable oil to the product, the skin will have a softer and more gentle effect. Also, natural ground coffee is one of the best helpers in the fight against the signs of cellulite. Even if this problem is not very acute, regular use of coffee scrubs will help to carry out effective prevention. After such a cosmetic procedure, the skin becomes perfectly smooth and soft, and acquires a delightful coffee aroma.
Scrub with coffee and shower gel
- To prepare the scrub, you will need to take natural coarse or medium grind coffee.
- For 10 ml of shower gel (you can use any product), take 1 tsp. dry ground coffee.
- Before using this scrub, you need to shake it first to mix all the ingredients.
To harmoniously combine the aroma of coffee and shower gel, it is best to choose one with the scent of lemon, cinnamon or coffee.
Scrub with coffee and honey
- The scrub contains ground natural coffee (1 tsp), olive oil (1 tsp) and liquid honey (1 tbsp).
- All components are thoroughly mixed and the scrub is completely ready for use.
If you add finely ground coffee to the product, it can also be used to care for delicate body skin. Olive oil and natural honey carefully care for the skin, providing a moisturizing effect and nutrition with beneficial substances.
Coffee scrub with yogurt
- You will need to take ground natural coffee (2 tbsp), natural yogurt (2 tbsp), cognac (1 tbsp).
- All components are mixed, as the scrub should acquire a homogeneous consistency.
- Cleansing procedures must be carried out systematically, because only in this case will a positive result be obtained.
Regular use of this composition helps in the fight against signs of cellulite. At the same time, the natural process of breaking down subcutaneous fat deposits in problem areas is activated.
Coffee scrub against stretch marks
- To prepare the scrub, you will need to take 5% apple cider vinegar (5 tbsp) and ground natural coffee (1 tbsp).
- After the mixture acquires a uniform consistency, the composition is applied to previously prepared wet skin.
- To enhance the effect of the scrub, after applying it, the problem areas are wrapped in a layer of polyethylene.
- After 10–15 minutes, the remaining scrub is washed off with warm water.
Even regular use of one scrub will not help completely get rid of stretch marks, but they can be made less noticeable and almost invisible.
Scrub peeling with fruit acids
Mix a teaspoon of lemon juice with a tablespoon of sunflower oil and sugar to form a thick mass. This will make an excellent homemade foot scrub that will quickly tidy up the skin of your feet and make your heels baby soft and smooth. Massage your feet with it for 4-5 minutes. Fruit acids contained in lemon juice exfoliate and soften dead skin, helping to get rid of calluses and corns. Just one procedure every 5-6 days - and you will have to go for a pedicure much less often!
Sugar body scrubs - homemade
Sugar body scrubs are no less effective. This cosmetic product is ideal for caring for different skin types. You can use not only plain white granulated sugar, but also brown sugar. It is better to avoid sugar with very large particles, but grinding it too finely will not help. You need to prepare the scrub immediately before use so that the sugar does not have time to dissolve, since it is its grains that cleanse the skin of dirt and dead particles.
Vitamin-sugar scrub
- Take sugar (1 tbsp.), olive oil (0.5 tbsp.), oil solution of vitamin E and A (2 tsp.).
- Everything is mixed and the composition is transferred to a glass container and closed with a lid. This scrub can be stored in the refrigerator for some time.
- If desired, you can add peach or almond oil to the product instead of olive oil.
- A few drops of lavender, rose or eucalyptus oil will give the product a unique aroma.
Scrub with sugar and cocoa
- This composition not only cleanses, but also softens the skin, restoring its softness and velvety.
- To prepare the scrub, take granulated sugar (2 tbsp) and cocoa powder (1 tbsp), add fat sour cream (2 tbsp).
- All components are mixed and the resulting composition is applied to damp skin.
- A light massage is performed for a few minutes, then the remaining scrub is washed off with warm water.
Scrub with sugar and oatmeal
- This type of scrub is simply ideal for dry skin care.
- It consists of oatmeal flakes, pre-ground in a blender or coffee grinder.
- Mix 1 tbsp. l. oatmeal and 2 tbsp. l. vegetable oil, add 2 tbsp. l. granulated sugar.
- The resulting composition has a mild effect, so it can be used not only to care for the body, but also for delicate facial skin.
How to apply the scrub
Procedure:
- Step 1. The mixture is applied after completely cleansing the skin of impurities, i.e. immediately after taking a bath or shower on damp skin.
- Step 2. Next, rub the skin with light, non-pressing movements for 5-15 minutes. It is acceptable to apply and rub the skin with your hands or use a special glove. Traditionally, one side of the glove is soft and the other is harder. The hard side is good for an additional massage effect. If it is important for you to preserve the beauty of your manicure, since abrasive particles can clean not only the skin, but also scratch the polish, use a special glove.
- Step 3. Afterwards, the product is left on the skin for several minutes so that the warming components have time to act and the nutrients have time to penetrate the epidermis.
- Step 4. Next, rinse off the product, wipe the skin with a towel and apply moisturizer.
Homemade salt body scrubs: features of preparation and use
Body scrubs often contain table or sea salt. These two types of salt have excellent antibacterial and abrasive properties. That is why they not only intensively cleanse the skin, but also even out its texture.
Sea salt has a rich and varied composition of valuable microelements - iodine, potassium, phosphorus, magnesium. Therefore, a scrub with sea salt perfectly exfoliates dead skin particles, while simultaneously saturating it with useful substances. Regular use of sea salt scrubs helps smooth out bumpy skin. If you use not only scrubs, but also wraps and baths with sea salt, the skin becomes perfectly smooth and silky, and the appearance of cellulite is noticeably reduced.
To prepare scrubs, you can only use finely ground salt, otherwise there is a risk of severe injury to the skin. If it is difficult to find fine salt, you can grind it in a blender or coffee grinder.
Scrub with salt and coffee
- Natural medium-ground coffee and sea salt are taken in equal quantities.
- 1 tbsp is introduced. l. olive oil.
- All components are thoroughly mixed.
- The scrub is applied only to damp skin, a light massage is performed for a few minutes, special attention is paid to problem areas.
- Leave the scrub on the skin for 10 minutes so that it absorbs all the beneficial substances, then rinse off with warm water.
Scrub with salt and honey
- This type of scrub can be prepared in advance and stored in the refrigerator for some time.
- The scrub contains natural liquid honey (3 tbsp) and finely ground sea salt (3 tbsp).
- If candied honey is used, it must first be melted in a water bath.
- All components are mixed and the composition is applied to damp skin.
Scrub with salt and sugar
- If you mix sugar and salt, the resulting scrub has excellent qualities and helps to get velvety and soft skin.
- To prepare the scrub you will need to take sugar (0.5 tbsp.), finely ground sea salt (0.5 tbsp.), olive oil (1/3 tbsp.).
- All components are thoroughly mixed and the scrub is used to treat wet skin.
Scrub with salt and orange zest
- The orange zest is grated.
- You will need to take orange zest (1 tbsp), finely ground sea salt (2 tbsp), olive oil (1 tbsp).
- You can add your favorite citrus oil (a few drops) to the scrub.
- All components are mixed, then the aromatic composition is applied to damp skin.
- A light massage is performed for a few minutes and the remaining scrub is washed off with warm water.
General principles for making homemade scrubs with your own hands
By using a natural body scrub made by yourself, you will not only save on professional care, but also take care of the health of your skin in advance. Homemade scrubs are remarkable because they:
- Safely removes the layer of dead cells on the surface of the skin, revealing younger ones, leaving your body soft and smooth;
- Contains natural oils that moisturize and nourish the skin;
- May include essential oils with aromatherapy properties. You can combine and use them to relax, calm, excite or create a romantic mood. Treat yourself to a spa-like experience!
Do you want to make sure that a homemade body scrub is no worse, or even better, than a store-bought one? Then just look at the label of the product you used before. As in our recipes, all purchased scrubs contain 3 main ingredients:
- Exfoliant or exfoliant. This is what cleanses and smoothes the skin. Popular exfoliants are sugar and salt as they dissolve easily in water and leave no residue on the bath.
We list the best available options and the features of their use:
- Salt is great for relaxing muscles. Of all the varieties for creating a scrub, it is best to choose sea salt, since it is the least processed and contains a wider range of trace elements and minerals.
- Sugar is somewhat gentler than salt, so it is more preferable for sensitive skin, as well as in the presence of wounds, scratches and other defects. Brown sugar is considered to be the most gentle and nutritious in cosmetology. In addition, it has a pleasant smell, especially if you add a little vanilla essential oil to it.
- Ground coffee will give you pleasure with its smell and reduce cellulite. The caffeine in its composition is a vasoconstrictor, so it can temporarily reduce varicose veins and rosacea.
- Raw honey is gentle enough for sensitive skin, yet harsh enough to remove dirt and dead cells. For homemade scrubs, it is better to choose natural honey that has not been pasteurized. When pasteurized (heated), honey loses most of the antibacterial and probiotic properties it has.
- Oatmeal is the gentlest of exfoliants. Unlike salt, sugar and coffee, it can be used simply by diluting it with a little water instead of oil. Thanks to its softening and moisturizing properties, it is ideal for dry, itchy skin. The only negative is that it does not dissolve in water, so it is not suitable for use in the bathroom.
Also, a body scrub at home can be prepared using crushed seeds (for example, flax) and nuts (for example, almonds), bran, egg and nut shells, shells, raspberry seeds, strawberries, etc. However, in this article we will only look at homemade body scrub recipes using the proven exfoliants listed above.
- Base oil . All scrubs contain an oil that plays two key roles: holding all the ingredients together while hydrating your skin. When preparing a body scrub at home for the first time, proceed from the recommended proportion of 1/3 share of oil for every 1 share of exfoliant. Some popular options:
- Olive – moisturizes, nourishes well and is sold in every store. It is also known to contain antioxidants that help prevent premature skin aging;
- Coconut oil – famous for its moisturizing properties;
- Sunflower oil is one of the most affordable on the market, but can leave a slight odor and be difficult to wash off;
- Sweet almond oil – has a sweet, nutty aroma and is absorbed fairly quickly;
- Grapeseed oil – has a faint sweet odor and leaves a thin film on the skin;
- Macadamia nut oil – also has a nutty smell, and in addition leaves an oily film on the skin. Recommended for very dry skin.
- Aroma . If you decide to make a body scrub at home, then choose your favorite essential oils for the scent. The “aroma oils” sold on the market are synthetic, so their use is highly undesirable. Here are some interesting combinations of essential oils for different skin types (the dose is calculated for 1 cup of exfoliant and 1/3 cup of carrier oil):
- Normal skin: 10 drops lavender, 6 geranium, 4 ylang-ylang;
- Oily: 8 drops sandalwood oil, 6 lemon, 6 lavender;
- Dry: 8 drops sandalwood oil, 6 geranium, 6 roses;
- Sensitive: 6 drops chamomile, 4 roses, 2 neroli;
- For extra hydration: 10 drops rose, 8 sandalwood, 2 patchouli;
- For mature skin: 8 drops neroli, 6 incense, 6 ylang-ylang;
- For acne: 10 drops lemon, 10 cypress, 5 lavender;
- For a lack of vitamins: 10 drops of geranium, 6 roses, 4 cypress;
- For visible capillaries: 8 drops of rose, 6 chamomile, 6 cypress.
Also, to “burn” fat and cellulite, aggressive agents such as cayenne pepper tincture, citrus extracts, sea buckthorn, etc. are sometimes added to body scrubs. They are usually used simultaneously with a warm wrap and we will tell you about them in a separate article.
Now that you know all the basic ingredients and how they work, you can safely start experimenting and creating your own homemade body scrub recipes! But first, let me offer you a few proven recipes.
What oils should I use for a homemade body scrub?
Oil is often added to the scrub as it combines other ingredients, moisturizes and softens the skin. In order for the scrub to acquire the correct consistency, you need to adhere to the correct proportions - 1 tbsp. exfoliating components take 1/3 tbsp. oils To care for very dry skin, you can increase the amount of oil, but this composition must be used immediately after preparation and not stored, otherwise the product will separate.
The following oils can be added to homemade body scrubs:
- Grape seed oil has a light consistency and a slightly sweet aroma; it leaves a thin film on the skin, which retains moisture inside the cells.
- Olive oil perfectly moisturizes the skin, making it softer and more tender. It is recommended to add olive oil to scrubs intended to care for aging skin. The oil contains a large amount of vitamins and nutrients, therefore it has a rejuvenating effect, makes stretch marks almost invisible, and perfectly moisturizes the skin.
- Sunflower oil is the most economical option. It is easily and quickly absorbed by the skin, washed off without problems at the end of the procedure, and is not inferior in composition to olive oil.
Scrub with vanilla and almond oil
- You will need to take sugar (3 tbsp), almond oil (1 tbsp) and vanilla essential oil (5 drops).
- All components are mixed until the composition acquires a homogeneous and not too liquid consistency.
- The product is applied to moisturized skin, paying special attention to problem areas.
- A light massage is performed for a few minutes.
- The scrub is left on the skin for another 10 minutes so that it absorbs all the beneficial substances, then it is washed off with warm water.
Olive oil and cinnamon scrub
- This composition has a pronounced antioxidant effect, cleanses the skin, warms it up and accelerates the metabolic process.
- You will need to take ground cinnamon powder (2 tsp), finely ground sea salt (1 tsp), olive oil (1 tsp), coarse black pepper (1 pinch).
- All ingredients are mixed and the resulting composition is applied to damp skin.
- A light massage is performed for a few minutes.
- If a strong burning sensation occurs, the scrub should be washed off immediately.
After using such a scrub, the skin may turn red, so be sure to use any moisturizer.
Spiced scrub
- The scrub contains sugar (0.5 tbsp), salt (0.5 tbsp), olive oil (0.5 tbsp), honey (0.5 tbsp) and eucalyptus essential oil (2 drops).
- Mix salt and sugar, add olive oil.
- A few drops of eucalyptus oil are introduced (can be replaced with juniper oil).
- The container is covered with polyethylene to prevent essential oils from evaporating.
- The following spices are ground in a mortar: cloves (5 pcs.), cardamom seeds (5 pcs.), coriander seeds (1 pinch), dry ginger and ground cinnamon.
- You can choose spices to suit your taste, the main thing is that you are not allergic to them.
- The honey is slightly heated in a water bath and a mixture of spices is added.
- The honey is cooled and mixed with the remaining ingredients.
- The scrub is completely ready for use.
With regular use of this product, the skin becomes soft and perfectly smooth.
Anti-cellulite scrub with olive oil
- To prepare the scrub, take mustard powder (1 tsp), honey (1 tsp), water (1 tbsp), sugar (1 tbsp), olive oil (1 tsp) .
- Mustard powder is dissolved in warm water, then all other ingredients are added.
- The scrub should be used on damp and preheated skin, after a shower.
- A light massage is done, then the composition is left on the skin for another 10 minutes.
- To enhance the effect of the scrub, problem areas are wrapped in a layer of polyethylene.
- At the end, the scrub is washed off with warm water.

Continuing the theme of intensive body care, we cannot ignore cleansing with scrubs. Here opinions may differ, since not everyone uses scrubs or chooses a different method of exfoliating the skin. This can be either dry exfoliation with a brush (drybrushing), or acid peels, or some other skin cleansing options. Although, the same drybrushing does not exclude the use of scrubs.
When I started talking about body shaping products, I briefly touched on the topic of skin exfoliation. Of course, the scrub performs not only a cleansing function, but also a massage function. Therefore, a good alternative may be the same scrubbing, or the use of special massage mittens. But the scrub is the most familiar and simple tool. The scrub exfoliates dead cells that prevent the penetration of beneficial substances - moisturizing, nourishing, in a word, those provided by serums, lotions and body oils. Cleansing also promotes skin regeneration/renewal and improves blood circulation. The latter is especially important if there is swelling or fluid stagnation. With sedentary work and low mobility, for example, this is a very common occurrence. Regarding exfoliation of the skin with scrubs, I will briefly repeat the main points that were previously voiced by Anastasia Volgina, trainer-cosmetologist EGIA biocare system:
• You need to scrub your skin 1-2 times a week. More often than not, this does not make sense, since skin cells do not have time to renew themselves during this time.
• The most accessible scrubbing agents are sugar, salt and coffee, which can be mixed with oils and shower oils.
• It is better to choose scrubs with non-sharp edges so as not to injure the skin.
• An advantage is the presence of oils and components that, in addition to cleansing, have an additional effect in skin care (for example, nutritional components, anti-cellulite, detox, de-puffiness, etc.).
Scrubs with round, smooth particles are very good, but at the same time, as surveys of girls I know (who often use body scrubs) show, they do not see the instant effect from such a scrub, which is characteristic of scrubs with a harder abrasive.
I would like to make a short summary of why you still need a body scrub. In addition to the massage effect, the scrub removes dead skin cells, making further skin care much more effective. This is especially true for fatty creams and massage oils. And this is especially important for those who have problem areas on the body. Regular care makes the skin more toned; a scrub with its massage and cleansing properties helps keep the skin toned. But the main thing is that it becomes smooth, soft and receptive to further care.
Now let's move on to reviewing several salt and sugar scrubs. In addition to me, two wonderful bloggers took part in this review: Iruldina (iruldina.com) and Inna (skinloves.me).
Fresh Juice Carribean Fruit Sugar Body Scrub.
The scrub is well known to my readers, as I have already written about Fresh Juice sugar scrubs from the Elfa concern more than once. This is a limited edition scrub, but the regular series also has a large selection of fruit scrubs with a thick sugar texture.
The thick sugar paste on a gel base spreads easily over the skin and foams in water, cleans perfectly, and has a pleasant aroma that lingers a little on the skin. The scrub has medium hardness and the sugar is quite fine. Of all the budget body scrubs, Fresh Juice is my leader.

Stenders Salt Scrub Lavender Salt scrub Lavender.
An incredible salt scrub, which I talked about in a large review of lavender products. Fine, smooth salt, a large amount of oils and lavender flowers make this most beautiful product stand out among all.
The scrub is very soft, the salt literally melts in your hands on your hot skin. In addition, the scrub literally floats in oils and has a very soft herbaceous lavender aroma. When applied, the oil remains on the skin. And, on the one hand, it is cleansed, on the other hand, it is immediately nourished. If you don’t have time for a massage with oils after a shower, this scrub is a great opportunity to combine good things with good things.

EO Laboratorie Anti-cellulite body scrub.
Irulda Ataeva (iruldina.com) will tell you about this scrub
EO Laboratorie ginger is so thick that you can easily scoop it up with a spoon. The composition contains shea and almond oils, when mixed with abrasive particles, they formed a paste-like texture. A medium-hard scrub that will appeal to girls with both sensitive and normal skin. It is convenient to distribute it over the skin; upon contact with a damp body, it begins to melt, and at the same time exfoliates the skin and nourishes it.
The product is positioned as anti-cellulite due to its composition. Ginger extract has a tightening effect and stimulates cell regeneration. Mustard warms and tones the skin. Gotu kola extract improves microcirculation.
I like to apply it to the thighs, buttocks, and abdomen, but I avoid the décolleté area. The scrub wonderfully renews the skin, removes dead particles, makes it smooth and toned. Oils soothe the skin, soften and moisturize. There is no need to use body lotions or creams after it.
I would especially like to note the aroma, it is simply divine! I want to enjoy it all the time. Fortunately, it stays on the skin and makes me happy for several more hours. The scrub smells like some kind of baked goods, with a spicy and ginger note.”

Velinia Sugar Scrub “Mint and Ginger”
The most invigorating mint and ginger scrub pleasantly cools the skin, but is also the harshest in my collection. I like to use it before massage with oils on problem areas of the body.
In addition to very active exfoliation, the scrub invigorates, improves blood circulation and cleanses so that the skin becomes perfectly smooth and absorbs oils in a few seconds. It's like she's naked. At the same time, the scrub has an average density and consumption is very economical. Also, the scrub contains oils, so the skin does not dry out if I suddenly don’t have time to apply cream or body oil.
Workshop Olesya Mustaeva Body scrub with cinnamon and orange
Inna Dubrovina (skinloves.me) will tell you about natural scrub with cinnamon
“Making a natural scrub is not a tricky thing. But making a natural scrub that smells like Viennese strudel is a more difficult task. Olesya Mustaeva did it. Her sugar scrub smells so delicious that you want to run to the kitchen for a tablespoon. The composition is clean and rich in oils. All components are mixed in ideal proportions.
It’s comfortable to use – nothing flows or crumbles when applied. The skin after it is as soft as a cat's ears.
