The fight for moisture: trying the new Artistry Hydra-V line

Cream is an integral part of any woman’s daily care routine. Nowadays there is such a huge number of creams on the cosmetic market that it can be quite difficult to understand their diversity.

Not all remedies are equally effective, and some of them can even be harmful. And of course, to understand how the cream will work, first of all, you need to pay attention to its composition.

Ingredients in face cream

The components of any facial product can be classified into several large groups.

We would like to remind you that all ingredients are listed on the label in descending order . That is, if mineral oil is in the first or second place in the composition of your jar, then it makes up the majority of the cream.

The components written at the very end have minimal concentration and have almost no effect. Therefore, choose a cream whose active ingredients will be located in the middle or beginning of the composition .

The basis of any cream is water .
The quality of the water is usually not specified. But remember that good pharmaceutical or luxury products are most often made with water from thermal springs , while budget brand products are made with regular filtered water .

2nd place is usually occupied by moisturizing or nourishing components . This could be glycerin, which acts only on the surface of the epidermis, or silicones, which penetrate deeper into the pores. It is also possible to have mineral oil, the purpose of which is intensive nutrition. But a more suitable option would be various natural oils rather than petroleum products.

Quite often alcohol is added to the cream , since it is a good and at the same time cheap solvent. But there are safer solvent options.

Of course, each product contains emulsifiers and texture formers , which contribute to the rapid application of the cream and its easy penetration into the skin.

And of course, perhaps the most important thing in any product is its active ingredients . They can be used hyaluronic acid, extracts of various plants, vitamins, natural oils, collagen and much more.

Please note: these substances should not be at the end of the composition to bring maximum benefit to your skin.

Mission No. 2 - protection

Protection is an equally important task of the cream. The skin must be protected from free radicals and sun rays. Studies have shown that excessive exposure to ultraviolet radiation on the skin negatively affects the condition of collagen fibers, which leads to early aging. Therefore, a good day cream must have SPF.

Face protection cream.

Many people have heard about free radicals, but not everyone has a clear idea of why they are so dangerous. Free radicals are molecules that are missing an electron. Therefore, their behavior resembles that of robbers; they take electrons from other molecules. When an electron is taken away from the latter, it transforms into a free radical. Only antioxidants can stop this destructive battle. Antioxidants are remarkable in that they give up their electron for free, without subsequently trying to take it from another molecule - the battle ends there. The antioxidant effect of the cream is provided by vitamins C, E and various plant extracts, such as green tea.

Therefore, when an advertisement for a cream makes loud promises about preventing premature aging, it can be said with a high degree of probability that the product contains antioxidants.

The difference between creams in composition depending on their purpose

Creams are divided into many different groups : day, night, moisturizing, nourishing, anti-aging and others.

How does their composition differ?

  1. Day and night creams are almost the same in terms of the content of certain components. But the texture of night cream is usually lighter; it does not contain silicones, which give the skin an instant glow and a well-groomed appearance. Substances that are incompatible with ultraviolet rays are added to the night cream.
  2. An anti-aging product has more differences. It usually contains collagen, retinol, vitamins C and A, coenzyme Q10, and peptides. These substances smooth out small and even large wrinkles, restore elasticity to the skin and tighten the oval of the face.
  3. Moisturizing and nourishing cream are also different from each other. A moisturizer contains ingredients that provide moisture to the skin as well as moisture-retaining ingredients. The most popular of them is hyaluronic acid. The consistency of the nourishing cream is thicker and is less absorbed. Its main part is vegetable and animal fats. It often contains fat-soluble vitamins and hormones. Cosmetologists usually recommend using a moisturizing cream in summer and a nourishing cream in winter.
  4. A product for problem skin , first of all, should contain antimicrobial and exfoliating components. These include salicylic and azelaic acid, copper and zinc, clay, sulfur, AHA acids, retinoids, triclosan. It is better to use such a product as prescribed by a doctor, so as not to harm yourself.
  5. massage cream is made on the basis of natural oils, which, when massaged, penetrate into the deep layers of the dermis and act from the inside. In such a product you can often find extracts of various plants, ceramides and peptides, amino acids.
  6. Several years ago, BB and CC creams . Their composition is no different from regular moisturizers, but they also contain tinting ingredients that create an even complexion and disguise imperfections.

Preparing an Instagram account

We look at ready-made accounts and identify strengths and weaknesses.

  • Create a cosmetologist friend who gives beauty advice, and other women will follow you.
  • Use an attractive avatar instead of a logo, packaging or serum dropper to get more reactions: follow-ups, likes, comments and story views.
  • It is not as important to use the name of the offer in the nickname as it is to use a human nickname. You create a character - a beautiful, well-groomed woman who uses the serum and recommends it to her friends and subscribers.
  • A signature with an emoji and a description of the effect gives a stronger effect than just mentioning the serum. It’s not the product that’s being sold, but the result: smooth skin without crow’s feet in 3 days, instead of a serum with a Botox effect. Even popular brands like Dior don’t just sell cream. The whole focus is on the result of this cream: a strong independent woman with the youthful face of a 16 year old girl that every male or female wants
  • Create short stories and broadcasts to get featured in recommendations. Accounts with stories stand out in search results, and if you use a hashtag and GEO tag, you can get into recommended stories by tag.
  • Write in the comments if you need additional advice on insta accounts, we’ll give you some advice.
  • If you decide to create an advertising account and merge it from ads, you need to switch your account to Business and add contacts. An email and a link to follow will do. It will be possible to track statistics for each post and monitor a cross-section of the audience.

What should be the composition of a face cream?

First of all, we want to say that choosing a cream is a very individual matter , and what is ideal for one person will cause allergies in another. But there are still general recommendations for selection.

Attention: check if your cream contains mineral oil . It is a petroleum product and can clog pores, cause inflammation and provoke the formation of comedones. Mineral oil can only be used by girls with very dry skin and narrow pores. For those with oily and combination skin types, it is better to avoid this component.

A good face cream should not contain alcohol . It causes allergies and irritation in sensitive skin, and also dries it out.

Aluminum acetate should also be avoided . It is used as an astringent, but with prolonged use it can cause flaking, tightness and dryness.

Any cream requires proper application to the face.

By skin type

Human skin is divided into four main types: dry, oily, normal and combination. Each requires a different cosmetic effect, so when choosing a cream, this point must be taken into account.

And to understand what type of skin it is, you need to take a closer look at them all:

  1. People with dry skin are prone to flaking, and after washing they often feel tight. Elasticity is lost early and wrinkles appear. However, after using the cream, such people feel that the feeling of tightness goes away and the skin looks better. Such a cosmetic product must contain: elastin, hyaluronic acid and collagen - moisturizing substances.
  2. Oily skin is prone to acne, blackheads, shine and enlarged pores. This type is denser and stays smooth longer. In this case, creams should contain substances that restore skin balance - these are extracts of yarrow, chamomile and calendula. (Our article: How to choose a cream for oily skin?)
  3. Those with a normal type have an even complexion, do not feel tightness after washing and rarely encounter the problem of acne. Creams with a lot of vitamins are suitable for them.
  4. Combination skin combines the signs of the above types on different parts of the face: there may be flaking on the forehead, shine and black spots on the nose, etc. Products for this type contain both anti-inflammatory substances and moisturizers.

In addition, there are people with sensitive skin , which is characterized by an acute reaction to any changes within the body or in the environment. In this case, creams should be selected so as to reduce the sensitivity threshold.

The fight for moisture: trying the new Artistry Hydra-V line

In September, the American brand Artistry released a new series of moisturizers. Yulia Grebenkina talked with a brand expert about why we need another moisturizing line - and Masha Botvinina has already tried it and shares her impressions.

“Why release another line of basic moisturizers?” — was my main question to brand expert Michelle Dallar, whom we met in Rome at the presentation of Hydra-V. Tall, thin American beauty Michelle is a licensed cosmetologist-esthetician, author of a textbook on the basic principles of salon aesthetic cosmetology, and keynote speaker at the International Congress of Aesthetic Cosmetology. Michelle runs the Institute of Aesthetic Medicine in New York, is well versed in laser cosmetology - and has been collaborating with Artistry for 11 years.

My question did not surprise her:

“We’ve spent many years in the industry focusing on very specific problems—wrinkles, pigmentation, loss of firmness.” So when two years ago I found out that we were launching a moisturizing line, I thought, oh, this is boring. But after researching the issue, I discovered that 87% of people today have dehydrated skin - just not everyone realizes it.

— What are the causes of skin dehydration?

— Dehydration occurs due to travel, due to environmental pollution, due to stress, due to eating habits, smoking, drinking alcohol, lack of sleep. Yes, even the atmosphere itself - from air conditioning in the office to central heating - all this dries out the skin. And this applies to every skin type, especially oily skin. But hydration is the basis of healthy skin. You can slather yourself in all the anti-aging serums in the world, but if your skin is dehydrated, you won’t get the effect.

— How can you tell whether your skin is dehydrated or just dry?

— There is a difference between dry and dehydrated skin. On dry skin, pores are usually not visible because they are very, very small. Dehydrated skin often looks tired, sensitive, as if it needs a boost of energy. Sometimes a girl says, “I used to have combination skin, but now it’s dry” - I immediately know that we are talking about dehydration, because the skin type does not change, but its condition does. But what’s also important to understand is that dry skin can also be dehydrated! According to research, in 9 cases out of 10 this is exactly the case. Because dry skin lacks lipids that would “lock” water inside it.

— How do the Hydra-V line products work?

“We focused on new technology that works thanks to the action of three new ingredients. It is based on the Nobel Prize-winning research of Peter Agre and Rodrick MacKinnon: scientists found that there are “water channels” in the skin, which they called aquaporins. These are integral membrane proteins that selectively allow water molecules to pass into skin cells. When they were discovered, everyone in the skin care industry immediately became interested. How can aquaporins be influenced to retain water in the skin?

What are we doing in new media? We help the movement of moisture in the skin and “seal” it on the surface so that it does not evaporate. The same three ingredients were used for this. The first is the crystal clear water from the Norwegian fjords. Almost untouched by man, filtered by nature itself, it is perfectly absorbed by the skin.

And now we have delivered as much water as possible to the skin - what next? The second key ingredient comes into play - Himalayan Mountain Pink Minerals. Interestingly, they are actively used in the field of healthy nutrition, because they contain 24 elements necessary for the human body. As for cosmetics, these minerals contain 9 substances necessary for the skin. Well, the most interesting thing is that they improve the movement of water between the layers of the skin.

What happens? Fjord water is like a drink of water for the skin, and the minerals help it move into the deeper layers. And finally, Hawaiian acai oil comes into play - a super powerful antioxidant, which also contains a large amount of lipids similar to lipids in human skin. Thanks to it, we “seal” moisture into the skin and do not allow it to evaporate.

Clinical studies show that using our Hydra-V Serum alone increases skin hydration by 87% over the next 24 hours. But the most interesting thing is when you look at the skin through all the layers of the epidermis through a microscope, you see that the skin cells after Hydra-V become healthy, round and full, as they should be.

Physiological changes in the functioning of the skin with Hydra-V take from 14 to 28 days, but most importantly, these are not just products from the “apply and immediately look better” category - they really change the functioning of the epidermis. Therefore, the effect will be cumulative.

There are 7 products in the Hydra-V line:

  • refreshing foam,
  • refreshing tonic,
  • refreshing concentrated serum,
  • light moisturizing gel (for oily skin),
  • enriching gel-cream (for normal and combination skin),
  • enriching moisturizer (for dry skin),
  • and a refreshing gel-cream for the skin around the eyes.

The products (except creams and gels) are suitable for all skin types and all ages.

My name is Masha and I have dehydrated skin. In the sense that it is not by nature that it is so dry, but by the “beautiful” environment. When Michelle said something about dehydrated skin, I just wanted to scream “it’s all about me!” Indeed, the pores are visible, and they look dull, and for the last couple of years, when I hear the word “moisturizing”, Homer Simpson’s voice “Mmm, moisturizers” turns on in my head - and my hands themselves reach for the jars.

The motto of the Hydra-V line is “Freshness. Hydration. Charge of energy” - so that I have no doubt at all what I need. The brand promises to saturate the skin with moisture, restore and maintain an optimal level of moisture.

Hydra-V Fresh Foaming Cleanser

The cleansing foam is actually more of a gel. Transparent, like a tear, and a little viscous. Smells light and fresh. It doesn't lather much, but creates a dense foam. It is used very sparingly - a drop the size of an almond nut is enough for me (this is the amount indicated in the release).

It promises to remove makeup, but this is quite conditional, like many similar products. The light tone and mascara washes off perfectly, but it can no longer cope with eyeliner, you have to rub and lather again. In short, it’s better not to)

But the skin afterwards is excellent - clean, fresh. The most important thing is that there is no feeling of tightness or dryness. I tested the foam at a party where the water was very hard and unpleasant. Usually I don’t wash my face with it at all, but use micellar water, but then I decided to take a risk and washed my face like this for almost a week. And I didn’t feel any discomfort at all.

Hydra-V Vital Skin Serum Concentrate

The serum has a liquid gel texture. You can see large blue granules in the tube, but when you squeeze it out, the gel is a uniform color.

The serum is quickly absorbed, my skin eats it up in just a couple of minutes. Unfortunately, it leaves behind a sticky layer - and this stickiness does not go away after applying the cream. For some this may seem critical, but personally I am quite comfortable. It moisturizes well, the skin is comfortable, but at the same time you want additional nutrition.

And the additive is available in three versions of creams. For distinction, droplets are drawn on each tube as an indicator of the level of hydration. The logic is the same as for sanitary pads. And it's brilliant! The world of moisturizing jars would be much simpler if all brands labeled their creams this way, honestly!

Light moisturizing gel for facial skin Hydra-V Refreshing Gel

Very light, for oily skin. Clearly not my option, and the test also confirmed this. The gel was quickly absorbed, but it was definitely not enough for me. The skin asked for more after about an hour. I suspect she was on serum all this time.

Enriching gel-cream for facial skin Hydra-V Nourishing Gel Cream

Perfect for daytime use. It moisturizes and nourishes well, its action lasts for the whole day and it works well with cosmetics. The foundations did not crease and did not sink into the pores.

Hydra-V Replenishing Moisture Cream

Solid, in a big jar. The densest compared to other brothers, but quite light compared to others of its kind. If you are expecting a viscous and tight “putty” - this is not for him. This is why I like him. Excellent as a night cream.

Hydra-V Refreshing Eye Gel Cream

The last cream in the line is for the skin around the eyes. The release states that it removes bruises. In fact, it only moisturizes and is clearly too tough for my bruises.

All creams have a light, barely noticeable smell - it’s more likely not even a fragrance, but it seems that the cream itself smells like that. It's a shame that they don't have the same fresh scent that the foam does.

Review of cosmetics in general impressions: Over the week of use, the feeling of dehydration has clearly decreased. The skin feels smooth and nourished to the touch, the slight roughness that was there at the very beginning is gone. Surprisingly, almost all the products in the line are among the favorites, and only the eye cream is an outsider.
