The main rule No. 1 is regularity. Facial skin needs high-quality, gentle and daily care, which will take no more than 10 minutes.

What can a facial toner do?

  • It will seem obvious to any woman that by removing makeup from her face and washing her face, she completes her preparation for applying night cream or going to bed. However, if, after even the most thorough washing with cleansing cosmetics, you wipe your face with a cotton pad soaked in tonic, you may notice traces of cosmetics or remnants of that very cleansing product on the disc. This is precisely the main function of a facial tonic.
  • In addition, many cosmetic cleansers have an irritating effect on the epidermis and disrupt its PH balance. Acid-alkaline flora weakens the skin's defense function, and bacteria are able to multiply even more actively. The tonic, in turn, balances all acidity levels to the required values.
  • Also, a tonic can prepare the ground for the activity of a cream or mask and prolong the effect of their impact. Its active particles help cosmetic products to be better absorbed into the skin and retain much-needed moisture inside the epidermis

Choosing a facial toner depending on skin type

When choosing a facial tonic, it is necessary to take into account the characteristics of your skin and its type. Tonics may contain elements that not only will not benefit the skin, but can also harm it.

  • For oily skin, a toner containing at least 50% alcohol is suitable. Such a large amount of it is due to the active production of sebaceous secretions and rapid contamination of the facial skin. It is alcohol that can remove dirt and destroy all unnecessary microorganisms. Also acceptable for oily skin is the content of salicylic acid, essential oils, herbal extracts and mattifying elements.
  • In turn, for dry skin the presence of even a small amount of alcohol solution is extremely contraindicated. It will further dry out and irritate already dry skin. For this type, it is advisable to select a tonic that contains various oils and vitamins that help nourish and moisturize it.
  • Problematic skin requires the addition of surfactants and BHA and AHA acids to the toner. It is best for skin with rashes and acne to use a lotion instead of a tonic, which allows you to more thoroughly cleanse the skin and eliminate all inflammation on it.
  • A toner for normal skin may contain a small percentage of alcohol (about 10%). The remaining components are selected individually, based on the woman’s age and other characteristics of her skin.

Rules for applying toner to the face

There are several ways to apply toner to your face:

  • using a spray
  • using gauze
  • fingers
  • cotton pads

The first option is recommended for women with extremely sensitive and dry skin. A tonic spray will help avoid skin contact with any irritant and relieve it from unnecessary friction.

  • For the same reason, you can use a piece of gauze. It is cut into the shape of a face and soaked in tonic, and then placed on the face for a while
  • Many cosmetologists consider the interaction of the skin with cotton wool to be quite traumatic. They are confident that cotton microfibers can irritate the epidermis and provoke the appearance of wrinkles. Therefore, the best way to apply any cosmetic product among professionals is considered to be subtle tapping of the fingertips.
  • For those who are not afraid of cotton wool, you can cover your face with toner using cotton pads. It is enough to simply dip it in the tonic and apply it to the face with light, imperceptible movements in the direction of the massage lines. Moreover, the same massage lines are also used in “finger” application

Why are massage lines needed?

If you regularly apply cosmetics along massage lines, you can observe the following positive changes:

  1. Pressing movements along the massage lines prevent the skin from stretching
  2. No pressure or damage to elastane and collagen fibers
  3. Old wrinkles are smoothed out, and new ones stop appearing
  4. More intensive cleaning of pores occurs
  5. Swelling and puffiness of the eyes disappears
  6. Double chin doesn't stand a chance

How to properly apply tonic to the face along massage lines?

To maximize the effect of any cosmetic product, you need to apply it strictly following the direction of the massage lines:

  1. As for the forehead, the tonic should be applied from its center to the temporal part
  2. The area around the eyes is moistened with light movements from the inner corner of the eye to the outer along the closed eyelid and from the outer to the inner - under the eyes
  3. The vector of the nose line first descends from top to bottom from the eyebrow to the tip, and then diverges from the nasal bone towards the ears
  4. The line connecting the lips and ears starts at the upper lip and ends almost at the earlobe
  5. Toner is applied to the chin from the center to the ear along the face line
  6. The neck area requires smooth movements from bottom to top from the neckline to the chin

When is the best time to apply the cream?

Day cream should be applied no later than half an hour before going outside .

Night cream can be applied 2-3 hours in advance , because your muscles are still mobile, the cream will have time to absorb well and do its job.

If you apply the cream and immediately go to bed, the muscles relax, microcirculation is disrupted, the cream stagnates and in the morning this effect can cause swelling, especially in the area around the eyes .

How often can you use facial toner?

  • Cosmetologists advise using tonic every time during cosmetic procedures. As a rule, women repeat such manipulations at least twice a day. In the morning, after sleep, it is recommended to wash your face and moisturize it with toner.
  • This is done to prepare the skin for the application of day cream and makeup. In the evening, after thoroughly removing makeup and washing your face, you need to apply a facial tonic. It will remove any traces of cosmetics and cleansers, and will also help the night cream to have a positive effect on the skin more intensely and for a long time.
  • If cosmetic procedures are carried out more than twice a day, it is advisable to accompany each of them with the application of tonic
  • In the summer, when the skin constantly sweats and the risk of contamination increases significantly, it is recommended to wipe your face with tonic several times a day.

How to get rid of a burn after a mask?

Applying anti-aging face masks with aggressive ingredients can have quite unpleasant consequences. If you notice that after using a cosmetic product there are burns on your skin, you need to soothe the epidermis as quickly as possible. It is best to first consult with a dermatologist or cosmetologist. If you don’t have time to visit a specialist, try giving yourself first aid at home.

Burn after mask

  • Gently wipe your face with ice water. This will quickly cool the epidermal cells, reduce inflammation and soreness.
  • Apply a tonic based on decoctions of medicinal herbs with a calming effect to the skin. This can be a regular decoction of chamomile, sage, or calendula.
  • Apply soothing baby cream to prepared and cleansed skin.

A clear sign of a burn after a mask is redness and irritation of the facial skin. The likelihood of such a side effect is especially high in the winter season, when immediately after the procedure you go out into the frosty air. This defect usually disappears very quickly if you take proper care of your skin and use moisturizer regularly.
