Maintaining a flawless appearance of your skin is not at all difficult; it is enough to organize competent regular care, which allows for complete cleansing. To do this, it is not necessary to purchase professional cosmetics or visit beauty salons, because there is a simple method that can be used at home - peeling with soda for the face.
Store-bought products contain many chemicals that lead to additional skin problems. In addition, such products do not always work. Skin peeling can be done using a common food product that is suitable for the body and face. Each recipe offered below can prove that you can get rid of wrinkles, sagging and other skin imperfections without wasting money.
The benefits of soda peeling
Peeling with soda is useful for many reasons, the main of which are:
- white powder acts as an effective soft scrub that exfoliates dead skin particles;
- Sodium bicarbonate, in contact with water, produces an alkaline reaction. This solution provides a drying and disinfecting effect, helping to quickly cleanse pores of impurities and blackheads. Sodium bicarbonate produces a kind of saponification of fats, i.e., alkali perfectly dissolves fat accumulated in the pores.
Using soda peeling at home, you can get the following results:
- ideal surface cleansing and removal of “dead” cells;
- alignment of color shade, relief, as well as effective lightening of the skin;
- flawless cleansing of pores from dust, impurities, comedones and blackheads;
- elimination of small wrinkles;
- getting rid of inflammation and peeling.
By doing peeling yourself, you can restore your skin to its former beauty and always look flawless. Our recipes will help you with this.

Methods of application
There are many ways to use baking soda to cleanse your face. This product is affordable, so people often experiment with it at home. But I don’t advise my clients to do this. Especially if they are not familiar with at least the basics of chemistry. The consequences can be quite unpredictable. It is better to use proven recipes. Or buy ready-made soda-based cosmetics.
For washing
The easiest way is to add soda powder to a regular foam or gel wash. This should be done immediately before use so that the crystals do not have time to completely dissolve. Lightly moisten the skin with water and apply the resulting mixture using gentle circular movements. You can leave it on for a couple of minutes to allow the baking soda to remove excess oil, and then rinse thoroughly with pleasantly warm running water.
Hard water will become much more friendly to the face if you add a teaspoon of soda per liter. If you have dry skin, it is better to neutralize it with a few drops of apple cider vinegar or a teaspoon of lemon juice. This will also enhance the whitening effect. It is useful to rinse your face with this water after washing or use it to wash your face.
Peelings and scrubs
This is the harshest way to influence the skin. Therefore, when using them, be sure to take into account contraindications and under no circumstances press too hard on the skin. Hand movements should be very soft and delicate, directed along massage lines: from top to bottom or from the middle of the face to the edges of the oval.
Here are some simple but effective recipes:
Recipe | Properties | Preparation |
Coffee | Coffee perfectly tones the skin and enhances exfoliation of the stratum corneum of the epidermis. Ground grains work as a rough scrub, and grains of soda act as a more delicate scrub. | For dry skin, use natural oil as a base, and for oily and combination skin, use a regular washing gel. Add a teaspoon of ground coffee and half of soda to them. |
Oat | A delicate but very effective way to cleanse dry and sensitive skin, which does not irritate or dry it out at all. | Grind a tablespoon of oatmeal (without impurities) in a coffee grinder to small grains (but not flour). Add a teaspoon of baking soda and a little milk or water to make a thick paste. Apply it to moisturized skin and massage your face for 2-3 minutes. |
Nautical | An excellent option for oily, problem and combination skin. It requires crushed sea salt, dry kelp and soda. This product has a powerful antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect and can be used for medicinal purposes twice a week. | Grind a tablespoon of kelp in a coffee grinder and soak in water to swell. After 5-10 minutes, add sea salt and soda in equal quantities and mix. Scrub your face for no more than 2-3 minutes, rinse thoroughly with running water. |
If you feel a strong burning sensation when using the scrub, it should be washed off immediately. After use, be sure to apply a soothing or moisturizing cream to your face.
Soda masks
A more gentle and safe option is soda masks. This is both an excellent cleanser and a beneficial effect on the epidermis. With the right choice of additional ingredients, excellent results can be achieved on any skin.
Here are a few of my favorite recipes that I recommend to my clients and even sometimes use myself:
Mask | Properties | Recipe |
Honey | Perfect for mature skin, as it nourishes it and even smoothes out fine wrinkles. | To a tablespoon of flower honey slightly heated in a water bath, add a teaspoon of peach or apricot oil and soda. Mix well, distribute evenly over the skin, cover with gauze and lie quietly for 15-20 minutes. |
Yeast | Useful for oily, combination and aging skin. Do not do it for acne and ulcers! | Activate a tablespoon of yeast with a pinch of sugar and a small amount of water. When bubbles appear, add egg yolk and a teaspoon of baking soda. Apply in an even layer and leave until completely dry. Before rinsing, cover your face with a damp cloth for 3-5 minutes. |
Kefir | Gives an excellent moisturizing and whitening effect, can be used on thin, dry, sensitive skin. | Thicken two tablespoons of kefir with two teaspoons of rice or oatmeal and one teaspoon of baking soda. Distribute the paste evenly and massage your face a little. Leave for 5-10 minutes, rinse with running water without soap. |
You can make such masks 1-2 times a week, but do not use soda peeling for the face 3-4 times a month.
Peeling with baking soda and salt
Sodium bicarbonate in combination with soda perfectly removes and cleanses the surface of the skin on the face. It is better to give preference to fine sea salt, but regular sea salt can also be used in the peeling process.
Take the mentioned components in equal proportions without mixing them. Wet your face with lukewarm water and then:
- Start rubbing baking soda with your fingertips. Make gentle circular movements for about 2 minutes;
- change the component to salt and do the same;
- Rinse off the product with cool water, pat your face dry and apply the cream.
If the skin is dry, it is better to prepare a composition from the mentioned ingredients with the addition of fatty sour cream and rub it into the skin in a circular motion. This type of facial peeling will have a milder but more effective effect.

Composition and properties
Of course, baking soda is very convenient as a home remedy for cleansing your skin.
It is cheap and is found in almost every home. Chemically, this substance is sodium bicarbonate, which, when reacted with acids, produces salt and carbon dioxide. And it almost instantly breaks down into carbon dioxide and water. Many cosmetic products are prepared on a soda basis, as it helps maintain the acid-base balance and also has the following properties:
- Anti-inflammatory – relieves redness and swelling well;
- Antibacterial - pathogenic microorganisms do not feel comfortable in such an environment.
- Scrubbing - in an undissolved state, soda grains work as a delicate but very effective peeling.
- Adsorbent – baking soda perfectly absorbs sebum and toxins.
- Whitening - with prolonged use of soda, it is really possible to remove shallow age spots and freckles.
- Antifungal - and soda effectively destroys not only fungi, but also spores, preventing the recurrence of the problem.
- Restorative - it manifests itself especially well on the skin after burns (thermal or solar).
In addition, soda perfectly softens hard water. Adding a small amount of it makes the skin smoother after washing, and the feeling of tightness, as often happens, does not occur.
Peeling with lemon and soda
Without vitamin C, the skin begins to fade. This is one of the components that is responsible for her youth. Peeling made from lemon juice and soda will also tighten pores and provide excellent cleansing of the treated surface.
Required components:
- baking soda – 1 tsp;
- freshly squeezed lemon juice – 1 tbsp.
Mix the ingredients and apply the finished mixture to problem areas. After complete drying, rub the composition with your fingertips using massaging movements. Rinse off with cool water.
Let's talk about cleansing your face with shaving foam and baking soda in this article.
For acne
Baking soda effectively dries out the epithelium and protects against acne. There is no need for expensive ingredients for this - everything you need for the procedure can be found in any kitchen.
You can apply a mixture of soda and auxiliary components only to problem areas of the skin or try not to affect the delicate skin.
With hydrogen peroxide
Using this mask will help eliminate not only acne, but also blackheads, acne, and brighten the skin. Hydrogen peroxide is a good antiseptic. The product removes unnatural oily shine well, frees pores from fat, dirt, and germs.
To prepare the mixture you need:
- soda - 2 parts;
- hydrogen peroxide (3%) - 1 part.
Mix the ingredients in a cup. The consistency of the mixture should resemble thick porridge. Use the resulting mixture to treat problem areas of your steamed face. After 5-10 minutes, wash with clean warm water.
How to use the composition is clearly shown in the video.
With salt
Salt is a product that helps not only cleanse the skin, but also rejuvenate it. For peeling, you can use traditional table salt or sea salt if its grains are very small, since large particles can injure the skin.
Ingredients:
- 15 g chopped salt;
- the same amount of soda.
Grind the salt thoroughly. Apply a thin layer of soap or gel to clean and moisturized facial skin. Apply baking soda over the entire surface of moisturized skin and massage with light movements for 1-2 minutes. Apply salt to the same area of the face, also massaging thoroughly. Rinse off the mixture with slightly warm water. Cover your face with gel or nourishing cream.

With the addition of sour cream
Dairy products contain a high percentage of useful minerals and vitamins necessary for the female body. Therefore, sour cream is widely used for peeling. The result of using sour cream in facial cleansers is smooth, soft and tender skin. The substance also has a whitening effect. A mixture of sour cream and soda will relieve inflammation, nourish the epithelium and remove acne. For those with oily skin, it is better to use this fermented milk product with a small percentage of fat content; for dry skin, it is better to use full-fat sour cream.
Ingredients:
- sour cream - 1 tbsp. l.;
- soda - 0.5 tbsp. l.
Mix the ingredients. If the mixture is too thick, add a few drops of water. Apply the mixture using massaging movements onto your face. Leave for 10 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Peeling with sour cream and salt will have a good effect if the mixture is applied to a steamed face.
With shaving cream
This method effectively softens and moisturizes even the deep layers of the skin, while cleansing and tightening pores. The face must be steamed before applying the mixture of cream and soda.
Ingredients:
- 40-45 g shaving foam;
- 2 tbsp. l. soda
Mix the composition thoroughly. Apply exclusively to problem areas of the facial epithelium. After 15 minutes, roll the mixture off your face with light massaging movements. Rinse off the remaining mass from your face with water, apply a moisturizing or nourishing cream.

Components:
- soda - 2 tbsp. l.;
- 200 g of water.
Stir baking soda in warm water until the grains are completely dissolved. Apply the mixture to the scalp and hair along the entire length, massaging the skin. Contraindications
Any type of cosmetic procedure, no matter how useful it may be, has contraindications. In the case of using soda peelings, the prohibitions are:
- the presence of allergic reactions to white food powder;
- the appearance of spider veins on the face;
- the appearance of purulent pimples on the treated surface;
- observation of various dermatological diseases, regardless of the stage of development;
- excessive sensitivity of the skin.
To effectively cleanse your skin, it is not at all necessary to visit expensive procedures in beauty salons. It is enough to regularly exfoliate, which contains baking soda.
See the following article: How to remove hair with soda.
In the video, our subscriber Irina talks about how to do facial peeling at home.
Rules for cleansing skin with soda
The procedure can be performed once a week. The soda is used fresh, not stitched.
- The skin of the face must be cleansed of cosmetics and contamination.
- Carry out the steaming procedure. Fill a basin with hot water, tilt your head over the steam, cover your head with a towel. 7 minutes is enough for the bark to steam and the pores to open. You can carry out the procedure after taking a bath or shower, when the pores expand from the steam without additional effort.
- For peeling, apply the skin gently to the face, avoiding the area around the mouth and eyes. Distribute evenly with fingertips.
- Massage lightly for 2 minutes. Leave to act for 10–15 minutes. Repeat the massage again.
- Wash off with warm water.
- Dry the skin with a napkin.
- Apply nutritious. Moisturizing cream. Or you can use folk recipes for cosmetics - kefir, sour cream, olive oil.
If acne and comedones are treated with soda, the product is applied directly to problem areas. During peeling, a slight tingling, burning sensation is felt, and the skin turns slightly red. This is a normal reaction to the action of the active components. If severe discomfort occurs, the product must be washed off quickly; an allergic reaction has occurred.
Reviews
Ekaterina is 26 years old. Inflammations constantly appeared on the wings of the nose, which worsened the appearance and were accompanied by pain. Mom advised me to exfoliate with soda. After two months of procedures, the problem practically disappeared. To this day I use this product in my facial care because I have problem skin. It really helps a lot.
Rita is 39 years old. I came across reviews about soda peelings quite by accident and decided to try it. I can say one thing, of course these products are effective, but they are not superior to store-bought products. They are on the same level with many of the expensive products I have purchased. The effect is similar. Did not expect. Now I will save on peelings.
In the next article we will talk about other methods of cleansing your face with baking soda at home.
