The “ground glass” symptom is not specific to any particular disease or group of similar diseases. Therefore, to determine the causes of its occurrence, doctors collect not only anamnestic data, but also study the general clinical picture and concomitant pathologies.

The frosted glass symptom is often provoked by:

• bacterial, viral or fungal pathogens. The most obvious example is seasonal flu, which humanity encounters every year;

Studies conducted by Japanese scientists among people who suffered coronavirus infection revealed the “frosted glass” effect on CT images in most of them. Doctors note that the most characteristic signs of pneumonia from Covid-19 are multiple opacities on an x-ray (ground glass symptom), thickening of the walls of blood vessels and peripheral distribution of lesions.
