White spots as a symptom

In order to find out the causes of the appearance of spots on the hands, palms, fingers or forearms, make a correct diagnosis and decide on treatment, the doctor will conduct an examination and prescribe tests. What diseases do spots on the hands signal?

Vitiligo is one of the most common diseases, the characteristic symptom of which is the formation of white spots on the skin. For vitiligo, neither gender, nor age, nor social status is important; it spares no one. However, it has been observed that vitiligo occurs more often during adolescence.

The main symptom is white spots that have clear boundaries without peeling, which can transform into one another or disappear. Characteristic changes in hair color on the affected skin and the fact that vitiligo never appears on the palms. Without proper treatment, the spots may increase in size.

The King of Pop Michael Jackson is known to have suffered from this disease. And Canadian model Winnie Harlow fulfilled her childhood dream and became a model, despite this illness.

Vitiligo affects approximately 1% of the world's population. The exact causes of the disease are unknown, but today doctors adhere to two versions: the development of the disease is caused by an immune breakdown in the body or by disorders in the endocrine system and liver.

Previously, vitiligo was associated with the presence of helminths in the body. There is also a genetic predisposition.

External factors

Injury to fingers and toes:

  1. impact with a heavy object, squeezing when caught under pressure, air gets into the damaged area, bubbles form;
  2. violation of the technological process of manicure and pedicure;
  3. use of false nails;
  4. constant application of gel polish;
  5. applying varnish with harmful components that are absorbed and dry the nail plate, creating favorable conditions for infection;
  6. the use of various solvents of unsatisfactory quality instead of special nail polish removers;
  7. lack of protective equipment (rubber and fabric gloves) when using household chemicals while doing housework;
  8. nail biting;
  9. poor circulation in the toes from tight and uncomfortable (pointed-toed) shoes - insufficient air supply to the feet provokes the development of fungus;
  10. fungal diseases.

Attention! Changes in healthy nails without obvious external reasons indicate an internal pathology that appeared in about six months - during this time a new nail grows.

How to treat?

Alas, vitiligo cannot be cured completely and forever; you can only stop the appearance of spots and eliminate the cause. As with almost every disease, with vitiligo the principle “the sooner you start, the sooner you will be cured” applies, because if the first spot appears on the skin, it is quite possible to stop the process of skin damage .

Basically, drug treatment is undertaken; drugs such as Prednisolone and Isoprinosine and immunomodulators are often used. In addition, hardware treatment for vitiligo is now actively developing - phototherapy and laser therapy. Skin grafts and special chemical peels under the guidance of doctors can help get rid of the spots.

A well-known method of treating white spots on the skin - PUVA therapy - consists of the use of photoactive substances - psoralens, which the patient takes orally or applies to the skin. But you should be careful when masking spots with foundation, because damaged skin is prone to reactions to cosmetics.

Despite the many treatments available for vitiligo, the most important thing is to identify its cause. By getting rid of it, you can get rid of the manifestations of the disease forever.

People with vitiligo should avoid exposure to sunlight, as the skin may become burned and blistered.

Prevention

Good nutrition is the key to good appearance of nails, hair and skin. It is advisable to promptly accustom your baby to a variety of foods by the age of one, and create a menu that includes the entire range of valuable substances.

Another task of parents is to create a favorable atmosphere in the family. Strict punishment, rejection, and domestic troubles create a stressful background that leads to poor health of the child.

New conditions also cause anxiety: moving, entering a preschool educational institution and school. Adaptation must follow all the rules of psychological science.

Prevention is also necessary against fungal diseases. Teach your child to wear shoes when visiting the pool, sauna, bathhouse, or on the beach, and promptly treat and treat skin damage on the legs and arms. You should also be taught to follow sanitary and hygienic rules from childhood: this will protect against the appearance of parasites.

Leucoderma

Leucoderma is not a skin disease, but is a symptom of other diseases accompanied by disorders of skin pigmentation. It occurs due to a lack of coloring pigment in the skin - melanin . It is noteworthy that leukoderma most often affects children under 12 years of age, and it also occurs in infants.

The main symptom of this disease is the appearance of small round spots. Depending on the underlying disease, the spots may differ in both color and shape. The color is white or with a pink and yellowish tint.

Causes

Modern medicine classifies factors that provoke leucoderma as disturbances in the functioning of the nervous and endocrine systems, or inflammatory processes in the skin.

Leucoderma can be a companion to syphilis, tuberculosis and other inflammatory diseases, as well as a consequence of such ailments as seborrheic eczema, psoriasis, pityriasis versicolor and pityriasis versicolor, etc. In some cases, the cause of leukoderma is a genetic predisposition or exposure to toxic substances from the outside.

Oral problems

Red dots on the tongue, first of all, can be observed with gingivitis and stomatitis, as well as other diseases of the oral cavity. Also, red dots in the mouth can be symptoms of some internal ailments, for example, with disturbances in the function of the gastrointestinal tract. It is possible that red dots on the tongue may just be signs of a food allergy. However, very often redness on the tongue can also signal scarlet fever. For redness on the tongue that is caused by bacterial infections, medications that have an antibacterial effect are prescribed. And in case of violations of the body’s protective function, a course of immunomodulatory drugs is prescribed.

Classification

The following types of leukoderma are distinguished:

  • infectious: syphilitic, leprosy, leukoderma in lichen; it occurs due to infectious diseases;
  • inflammatory, appearing after burns, skin inflammatory processes;
  • medicinal, professional or toxic: formed due to exposure to certain toxic substances or drugs, for example, after working with heavy metals, aggressive dyes, etc.;
  • congenital, it is caused by congenital Ziprovsky-Margolis, Wulff, Waardenburg syndromes;
  • immune, resulting from autoimmune reactions due to the destruction of melanocytes.

Treatment

As with vitiligo, the main goal here is to identify the cause, namely the underlying disease. Symptoms of leukoderma can be treated with glucocorticosteroids, furocoumarins and other medications as prescribed by a doctor.

Pityriasis alba is a type of dermatitis. Unlike ringworm , it is not contagious and does not pose a high risk to the patient. It appears as light spots on the skin, most often in children from 3 to 16 years old. The disease does not require special treatment, but in each case, visiting a doctor allows you to receive recommendations for a speedy recovery.

Are red dots – angiomas – dangerous?

Often such red dots are benign neoplasms that arise in the network of blood vessels, most often capillaries. They are called angiomas. They are easy to identify by their appearance: angiomas rise slightly above the skin level, and their surface is usually bright red. If you press on the angioma, it becomes lighter for a while, and then returns to its previous color.

Some people are very worried when they find angiomas on their body. However, in the vast majority of cases, these tumors do not pose any threat to health and are only an aesthetic problem. Therefore they should not be deleted. But if the angioma begins to noticeably increase in size, then it is worth visiting a cosmetologist, whose “arsenal” includes a number of effective and safe methods for removing such tumors.
