After the baby is born, the belly becomes “empty” and excess skin sags. In addition, due to sudden weight gain or loss, stretch marks often appear on the stomach. After the birth of the baby, the mother’s belly remains large due to some basic physiological reasons:

  • Due to an enlarged uterus. The fact is that immediately after childbirth, the uterus remains in a distended state for quite a long time, and its weight is about 1 kg. For her to return to normal and take on her prenatal size, at least 5-8 weeks must pass (depending on the individual characteristics of the woman).
  • Due to the fat accumulated over 9 months. Fat during pregnancy accumulates in the abdominal area for everyone without exception, some have less, and some have a little more. The body does this in order to further protect the fetus from external influences. You shouldn’t envy your friends who, after having children, look like little reeds; we are all different, with our own genetics, metabolism and body characteristics. Therefore, if your body has accumulated a lot of fat deposits, now you need to help it get rid of its excess and find a way to tighten a sagging belly.

Will brown spots on my skin go away?

Skin pigmentation that appears during pregnancy will disappear within a year after giving birth. Changes in pigmentation of the skin of the face and neck are called chloasma. The line running down the middle of the abdomen from the pubic bone to the navel is called the linea alba. The appearance of age spots on the body is caused by high levels of hormones during pregnancy. After childbirth, the levels of these hormones will decrease. You will see that the spots will become less noticeable, although some will not disappear completely. Perhaps skin pigmentation is a hereditary factor. People with dark skin, especially those of Asian descent, are more prone to developing pigmented patches. If you want the spots to disappear, you need to avoid exposure to the sun. When exposed to sunlight, the spots darken even more. If you want or must be out in the sun, wear a wide-brimmed hat, long sleeves, and use sunscreen. You may notice your skin darkening again in some areas if you start taking birth control pills that contain hormones. If you don't like it, talk to your doctor about another form of contraception. If the spots do not lighten within a year after giving birth, make an appointment with a dermatologist. Perhaps he will advise you to use a bleaching cream first.

Exercises for a saggy belly

We all remember from physical education lessons that in order to pump up the abs, you need to do exercises while lying down and lifting your body. But for a woman who has given birth, this is not exactly what is needed. After all, such an exercise uses only the upper abdominal muscles, and they already work quite actively in everyday life.

But the lower part of the abs strains much less, due to a sedentary or sedentary lifestyle. But it is the relaxation of the muscles in this part that is the main cause of a saggy belly. Therefore, first of all, it is recommended to work on the lower abs; the following exercises will help you do this:

  • From a lying position, lift your legs straight, at an angle of 90° to your body, and return them to their original position;
  • The “bicycle” exercise, familiar to us from childhood, is also very effective. Lying on the floor, bend your knees 90 degrees and perform movements that simulate pedaling on an invisible bicycle.
  • Lying on your back, lift your body and reach your elbow to the opposite knee, lower yourself, then repeat the same with the other elbow;
  • Make it a habit to go for a short run in the evenings. If this is not possible, then practice running in place at home;
  • Practice with a hoop, preferably a special massage hula hoop. If you spend 30-40 minutes spinning a hoop every day, you can get rid of your sagging belly within the first month of classes.

9. It is better to replace fresh bread with crispbread , simple crackers and dryers.

When breastfeeding, the following fruits are allowed: pears, bananas, apricots, seasonal berries, watermelons. It is useful to drink dried fruit compote, jelly and fruit drink made from sour northern berries. If you want something sweet, eat dried fruits or some nuts.

General recommendations

Flabbiness of the abdomen after childbirth can be eliminated by making the skin smooth and beautiful. But if you think that this will happen quickly, easily and simply, then you are mistaken. The process of dealing with such a defect will take a lot of time and effort. It must be long-lasting, regular and comprehensive. Its main goal is the regeneration of skin turgor, uniform distribution and significant reduction of fat deposits. The program for eliminating sagging skin on the abdomen includes a local effect, increasing muscle tone, and supporting the health of the epidermis from the inside at the cellular level.

It is not recommended to begin eliminating skin defects immediately after childbirth. Young nursing mothers should hold off on procedures and physical exercises, because they can harm themselves and the baby. The fight against unsightly skin on the abdomen involves rubbing in a variety of creams and gels that enter the bloodstream and then into the mother’s milk. It can negatively affect the baby's well-being. Therefore, you need to start eliminating sagging skin on the abdomen at least 2-3 months after childbirth.

Will stretch marks (striae) disappear?

Stretch marks won't go away completely, but they will become less noticeable over the coming months and years. At first they are pink, brownish or purple. But gradually the pigmentation will begin to disappear, and they will become lighter. If stretch marks are bothering you, there are a variety of lotions and creams you can use. Most stretch mark treatments simply moisturize the skin. Creams with vitamin A derivatives, such as tretinoin (Retin-A), can reduce stretch marks. But such creams are sold only by prescription. The doctor, as a rule, does not prescribe a cream with vitamin A derivatives if you plan to have more children. If you become pregnant while using the cream, it may harm the fetus. You should also not use this cream while you are breastfeeding. You can fight stretch marks with laser therapy. It is most effective when the stretch marks are still red, brown or purple, but it still does not remove them completely. Cosmetic surgery is another option for treating blemishes.
