Both creams and ointments can be used to treat psoriasis. How to distinguish them? Despite their external similarity, cream and ointment are fundamentally different dosage forms.

Cream is an emulsion; it consists of water, an oil base and an active substance. The cream may contain a composition of several active ingredients. The components are quite light, penetrate well through the upper layer of the skin - the epidermis and can affect the deeper layers of the dermis.

The ointment, as a rule, does not contain water, consists of a base, often fatty, and an active substance; ointment is always a dosage form. The ointment can be presented in the form of the ointment itself, gel, liniment or paste. The absorption of the ointment into the skin is slow; it may leave a greasy sheen and stains on clothes.

In addition to Losterin cream, the manufacturer offers a special shampoo and shower gel based on naphthalan, which can be used for psoriasis and other skin diseases.

Pros: does not contain hormones and does not cause side effects or withdrawal symptoms. Can be used in combination with basic therapy. Under the brand name Losterin, a whole series containing naphthalan is produced - shampoos and shower gels.

I have mixed feelings about this product. This may be a bit long, but I think it’s worth telling a little background. I have been suffering from psoriasis for 20 years. I first became closely acquainted with Kartalin 4 years ago, in 2010. It was a dark-colored ointment with a specific smell (the smell, by the way, didn’t bother me), with a volume of 125 ml.

At that time, against the backdrop of a stressful situation, I had another exacerbation of psoriasis after a very long remission. It lasted for the second year and was manifested by arthritis and itchy plaques on the body and head, which became more and more numerous, and their size increased. There was almost snow falling from my head. Despite the fact that I don’t drink, don’t smoke, and follow a diet. I also applied hormonal ointment to them, although I knew that this was undesirable. I just didn’t see an alternative at that time. She completed a course of “treatment” at the local hospital. There they treated me only with sulfur ointment (aside from the unpleasant odor, it barely washed my hair), injections of vitamins, “Essential Forte” and something else, I forgot the name. Those who have encountered our free healthcare know what it is. There was no sense in such “treatment”.

Then I began to study information about psoriasis on the Internet. Through trial and error, I began to look for my own method of treatment. I immediately rejected widely advertised hormonal products like Skin-cap. I tried smearing the plaques with tar - it didn’t help. What helped before.
Production has been discontinued And finally, on a website dedicated to psoriasis, I read reviews from those treated (modest mentions, and not a detailed description of its beneficial qualities, which is the fault of custom-made advertising articles!) that Kartalin helped. I decided to try it, not really hoping for anything. It turned out that in our city it was also sold in only one pharmacy and at exorbitant prices. In 2010, I paid the equivalent of $50 for a jar, while in Russia its cost at that time was around $10. I began to follow the recommendations specified in the instructions - to smear the plaques daily, at a minimum, but I followed the diet without it. Yes, the ointment turned out to be a brand, with a smell, I had to get special underwear. But, it seems to me, if you want to be healed, then such little things should not bother you.

And now - lo and behold!!! After about 2 months of use, small plaques began to disappear, and large ones began to turn pale and become overgrown with normal skin. The scalp was also cured, I forgot what itching and giant flakes of dandruff were! Almost everything has passed - 99%,

There were a couple of unnoticeable “duty” plaques that stubbornly refused to go away. This happens, this is the specificity of the disease.

Moreover, my husband smeared eczema on his leg with this kartalin - it arose after the operation, next to the suture. It's all gone. And the dermatologist prescribed him an expensive hormonal ointment for “treatment” - we did not buy it.

Four years passed - another good stress and an exacerbation began again, psoriatic plaques began to appear. The old jar of Kartalin is gone. I wanted to buy a new one and I see that the ointment is now also in a “new format”. Like this:

The price remained the same, the volume decreased. 100ml instead of the former 125ml. The smell has become more pleasant, even aromatic - lavender notes are felt. The color has become lighter. Vitamin D, which was previously included, has disappeared from the composition. Otherwise, everything remains the same. But for some reason I stopped helping

. I used a whole tube, but the result was zero! The plaques don't disappear. They just peel off gently and the itching goes away. That's why I give it three stars - at least some effect.

The therapeutic course should be divided into two periods - recovery and recording of the treatment result.

• Stage 1. It is carried out until the plaques completely disappear, when light or dark spots form on the skin in their place. 10 days from the start of the course, the ointment is applied once daily. Next, increase the frequency of application to 2 or 3 times (depend on the individual condition and extent of psoriasis). You cannot apply the product to the entire surface of the body at the beginning of the course. Every 2 days, add a new treated area - neck, arms, back, legs.
• Stage 2. After the plaques have completely disappeared, start using the ointment once a day. The product should be used for 30 to 60 days, depending on the effectiveness of the treatment.
