Treatment of HPV with suppositories: advantages and disadvantages of the method

In recent decades, increased attention from doctors has been paid to human papillomavirus infection. This is due to the significant role of this group of viruses in the development of cervical cancer. HPV affects the skin and mucous membranes, causing chronic inflammation and the formation of warts and genital warts on various parts of the body, including the genitals. Diagnosis involves performing special tests to detect the DNA of the virus. Vaccination is considered one of the effective methods of combating infection. Treatment is aimed at mechanical removal of formations and strengthening the immune system with the help of medications. Medicines in the form of suppositories are recognized as the most effective. They are easy to administer and affordable.

Features of the infection and principles of its treatment

HPV is a disease from a number of STIs (sexually transmitted infections). It manifests itself after a long period of time under the influence of provoking factors that in one way or another weaken the general state of health. Only then do unpleasant skin growths appear, which are the result of the virus’s effect on epithelial cells.

The main goal of therapy is to minimize the number of infected cells, and to introduce the virus itself into an inactive state, since it is impossible to completely remove it from the patient’s body. For this purpose, antiviral drugs and immunomodulators are prescribed, which in the future will give the body the opportunity to fight the virus on its own.

How can candles help?

Papillomas can be located throughout the body, but they pose a particular danger to life if they occur in the genital area. Therefore, vaginal and rectal suppositories that have an antiviral effect are used as a local treatment. The main task of candles is as follows:

  • reduce the vital activity of the virus;
  • eliminate pain;
  • calm down the inflammatory process;
  • remove swelling.

However, the most important and primary task of suppositories is to strengthen local and general immunity. It has been scientifically proven that the virus can be cured only if the body’s natural protective functions are able to overcome it on their own.

Products with interferon

Interferon-containing drugs play a leading role in the treatment of HPV. Interferon is a protein produced by the body in response to the appearance of a virus. It prevents the synthesis of viral DNA, activates genes that protect the cell, and directly stimulates the human immune system. In the fight against severe viral infections, in particular papillomavirus, interferon alpha-2b is prescribed.

Viferon

Main substance: recombinant human interferon alpha-2b.

Indications: in combination in the treatment of viral infections, including the appearance of growths on the genitals caused by HPV. Allowed for use from 4 months of pregnancy.

When a virus infects a cell, the cell membrane is disrupted. Viferon stabilizes the membrane, thereby enhancing the antiviral activity of interferon and significantly increasing the effectiveness of this approach.

Laferobion

The drug is made on the basis of recombinant human interferon (interferon alpha-2b). Other components: tocopherol acetate, ascorbic acid, solid fat.

Successfully fights viruses and strengthens the immune system. Thanks to the successful combination of components, the antiviral effect of interferon is enhanced tenfold.

Used for vulgar warts and genital warts.

Contraindications for use: allergic reactions to the components of the drug, pregnancy, serious liver and kidney diseases.

Altevir

Made from human interferon alpha-2b. It has antiviral, immunomodulatory, antiproliferative and antitumor effects. It disrupts the synthesis of RNA and proteins of the virus, thereby preventing replication, and also prevents oncogenic cells from multiplying. Effective for genital warts.

It is forbidden to use in patients prone to allergic reactions, with severe diseases of the cardiovascular system, liver and kidneys, epilepsy and diseases of the central nervous system, thyroid gland, pregnancy, lactation, and under the age of 18 years.

Genferon

Another remedy against papillomas, made on the basis of the same active substance - interferon alpha-2b. Affects local and systemic immunity, has antiviral and antibacterial effects. Genferon eliminates foci of inflammation, disrupts virus replication, and has regenerative and membrane-stabilizing properties.

One of the components of Genferon is anesthesin, which has a local analgesic effect, resulting in a decrease in the feeling of itching, burning and pain. Indicated for HPV diseases in the anogenital area. Prescribe one suppository vaginally or rectally twice a day. The therapeutic course is at least 10 days.

The use of suppositories is contraindicated if you are allergic to drugs

Laferobion

Laferobion rectal suppositories contain human interferon, thanks to which the drug acts on viral and cancer cells, neutralizing them. In addition, this drug actively modulates the immune system.

Laferobion suppositories cannot be used to treat papillomas if you are prone to allergies, pregnancy, or impaired functioning of the liver and kidneys. This drug has a wide range of side effects, so you need to be careful when using it and follow the instructions.

The therapeutic course involves the purchase of four packages, since a total of 20 pieces will be needed. So, treatment begins with rectal administration of suppositories for five days in a row, then the frequency of administration changes, and from that moment on the patient administers the medicine every other day.

It should be noted that in combination with Laferobion, antibiotics enhance their effect.

Suppositories for papillomas can be used both inside the vagina and inside the anus. However, there is still a difference between these two methods: intravaginal administration provides only a local effect, while rectal administration of suppositories will help overcome the human papillomavirus not only in a separate area of the body, but throughout the entire body.

Suppositories for HPV are one of the ways to treat the disease and are included in the list of drugs recommended by venereologists. Additionally, you should take immunomodulators, vitamin and mineral complexes. Sexual relations are the main route of transmission of infection, settling in the superficial skin tissues. The pathogen penetrates the basal layer, disrupting natural processes in cellular structures.

Other immunomodulators

In addition to interferon-based drugs, other drugs are used against the human papilloma virus, the task of which is to strengthen the body's defenses.

Immunomax

A drug based on Immunomax is used to correct weakened immunity; to get rid of warts, papillomas and condylomas caused by the human papillomavirus. After using Immunomax, the formation of antibodies against foreign antigens is activated.

It is not permissible to use if you are allergic to one of the components of the drug, as well as for children under 12 years of age. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not recommended.

Polyoxidonium

A preparation based on azoximer bromide. Polyoxidonium stimulates the production of antibodies and directly affects natural killer cells. It also removes toxins and heavy metal salts from the body, and therefore is used in the complex treatment of cancer.

Indications: as part of complex treatment for acute and chronic recurrent infections, including papillomavirus; to activate tissue regeneration processes.

It is prohibited to use in case of intolerance, acute renal failure, children under six months, as well as pregnant and breastfeeding women.

The daily dose is 1 suppository once a day for three days, then every other day for another two weeks.

Indications for use for HPV

The human papillomavirus includes many subspecies. Experts have studied more than a hundred different infections, classified according to individual criteria:

  • strains of viruses that have no risk of oncogenicity - 1,2,3,5;
  • strains with low risk – 11, 42, 43, 44;
  • strains with the highest risk of oncogenicity – 16, 18.

Diagnosis of type 16 or 18 in a person indicates an increased danger. When exposed to negative factors, the virus will cause pathogenic changes in the skin tissues of the mucous membranes. Externally, the patient will encounter the growth of warts on the skin and condylomas on the mucous membranes. In women, it can be diagnosed in the vagina, often causing dysplasia.

The person is prescribed long-term therapy. In combination with suppositories, you should strengthen your immune system and get tested regularly. Women need to undergo frequent gynecological examinations.

Allokin alpha

Made on the basis of alloferon, which helps the body identify and get rid of affected cells. Used in complex therapy of human papillomavirus infection caused by oncogenic types of HPV.

Use is prohibited if you are allergic to the components of the drug, have autoimmune diseases, or during activities that require increased concentration (due to possible dizziness). It is not allowed to be administered to children or during pregnancy.

At the moment it is available in the form of powder for injection, but it is planned to release it in the form of suppositories (suppositories). It is administered subcutaneously every two days. The duration of therapy is determined by the doctor.

Gepon

The active substance of these suppositories prevents the multiplication of the virus, increases the body's resistance to infections, and stimulates the production of interferon. When applied topically, swelling, inflammation, and pain are reduced.

Indicated to strengthen immunity against infections, including human papillomavirus.

Contraindications: presence of allergic manifestations to one of the components of the drug, age under 12 years.

Panavir

When using Panavir, an increase in the immune response and the production of interferon by blood leukocytes is observed.

The drug is prescribed for the complex treatment of human papillomavirus due to its ability to interfere with the synthesis of viral DNA in host cells. Panavir has an anti-inflammatory effect.

Contraindications: individual sensitivity to ingredients, childhood, severe pathology of the kidneys and spleen. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding is prohibited.

The therapeutic course consists of 5 suppositories and is carried out according to a scheme developed by the doctor.

Cycloferon

It is a high molecular weight inducer of interferon formation. It has anti-inflammatory, antiviral, immunomodulatory, antitumor properties, and does not allow infected cells to multiply.

Prescribed for diseases of viral etiology, including human papillomavirus; prevention of metastasis and proliferation of malignant tumors.

The treatment regimen with Cycloferon suppositories is determined by the attending physician.

Contraindications: individual sensitivity to the components of the drug, liver cirrhosis. During pregnancy and breastfeeding, the use of suppositories is prohibited.

Proteflazid

Candles are made on the basis of ground reed grass and turfgrass (pike) grass. They prevent the multiplication of the virus, restore the protective function of the mucous membrane of the vagina and cervix, and strengthen local immunity.

Proteflazid suppositories are prescribed for the treatment of mild and moderate cervical dysplasia and other diseases caused by HPV, including oncogenic strains.

Suppositories are used vaginally after hygiene procedures. After administration, you must spend at least 3 hours in a lying position and avoid sexual contact for at least 8 hours. It is recommended to begin use immediately after menstruation.

Use 1 candle 2 times a day. The course of treatment is 3 months according to the scheme: 14 days treatment - 14 days break.

Contraindications: individual sensitivity to the components of the drug, stomach and duodenal ulcers.

General description of the pathology

The human papillomavirus can cause damage to the skin, oral mucosa and genitals. HPV has great oncogenic potential.

It causes metaplasia of epithelial cells, the degeneration of benign tissues into malignant neoplasia. It is believed that papillomavirus can cause cancer of the cervix, vulva and vagina in women.

There are two main routes of transmission:

  • Sexual;
  • Vertical (from mother to fetus). This can lead to spontaneous abortions in late stages or damage to the larynx in the newborn;
  • The medical literature also describes the contact and household route of infection. It is believed that flat warts and plantar papillomas can be infected in this way.

Risk factors for human papillomavirus infection are:

  • frequent change of sexual partners;
  • early onset of sexual activity;
  • concomitant sexually transmitted infections;
  • primary immunodeficiency;
  • avitaminosis;
  • bad habits.

The incubation period ranges from 1 to 12 months. There are 30 types of papillomaviruses. Depending on the type of HPV, the following forms of diseases are distinguished:

  • Vulgar warts. Most often localized on the hands and fingers. They have a large “mother” and small “daughter” formations. Flat warts. They rise slightly above the surface of the skin and are located on the hands or face.
  • Plantar warts. They resemble a callus and are markedly painful. Localized in places where shoes rub.
  • Condyloma acuminata. It is a papilloma with a thin stalk or a wide base. Their main location is the genitals. Foreskin, glans penis in men. In women - labia minora, vagina, anorectal area.
  • Papillomas of the cervix. Prone to malignancy.
  • Atypical condylomas. They are condylomatous vaginitis and cervicitis. It can only be seen using colposcopy.
  • Giant condyloma. Invades large areas of the genital organs and the anus area.

It has been established that human papillomavirus infection occurs in HIV-positive individuals 4 times more often than in HIV-negative individuals.

Antiseptics and antivirals

As part of complex therapy for papillomatosis, along with interferon drugs and other immunomodulators, antiviral agents and antiseptics are necessarily prescribed to protect against re-infection.

Betadine

Active ingredient: povidone-iodine.

Betadine vaginal suppositories have a strong antiseptic and disinfectant effect. Used to prevent infections when the integrity of the epithelium is violated.

Contraindications: allergy to iodine, thyroid disease, renal failure, Dühring's dermatitis herpetiformis.

Women who use Betadine for too long may experience skin irritation or other reactions indicating increased sensitivity to iodine. In this case, its use should be stopped.

Galavit

Pharmacological action of suppositories: antiviral, anti-inflammatory, immunomodulatory. Galavit increases the body's nonspecific resistance to infections. When used in combination with other drugs, it strengthens their effect and helps avoid relapses.

Indications: treatment of acute infectious diseases; urogenital infections. The course of therapy depends on the severity and duration of the disease.

Kipferon

Active ingredients: immunoglobulin complex preparation, interferon alpha-2b. Activates innate and acquired immunity, strengthens protection against viral infections, restores intestinal and vaginal microflora.

It is not allowed to use the drug in case of personal intolerance to its components, the first trimester of pregnancy, or breastfeeding.

It is advisable to prescribe the drug during an exacerbation of the disease. Used rectally or vaginally. The adult dose is 1 suppository three times a day. The course of treatment lasts up to one week.

Is it possible to cure papillomavirus completely?

Due to the specific location of the growths, the patient is prescribed local treatment. To relieve symptoms and boost immunity, suppositories or suppositories are used to fight the body against formations.

At the same time, it is worth understanding that they cannot completely cure HPV, but only relieve symptoms, and if comprehensive treatment is not used, papillomas will return within a few months.

On the pharmacological market there are many suppositories for HPV of various compositions: from homeopathic to suppositories. Containing human interferon, but, as a rule, the effect of all of them is similar:

  • Aimed at combating the growth and reproduction of the virus.
  • Strengthens the immune system at the local and general level.

To date, over a dozen varieties of HPV have been discovered. Most of them are harmless, but there are also those that can cause cancer; these types of disease are considered a high-risk group.

In order to avoid serious complications, it is extremely important to treat the disease comprehensively. And only with a long period of remission can the virus be considered neutralized.

Tablets and injections

Removal of papillomas is not carried out solely by the use of suppositories. In most cases, the doctor prescribes therapy that uses drugs of local and general action, because the goal is not only to get rid of unwanted growths, but also to strengthen the body for the final victory over the virus.

Roferon-A

Injection solution with the active ingredient interferon alfa-2a. Has many similar properties to natural human alpha interferons. Roferon-A strengthens cell resistance to viral infections, modulates the corresponding response of the immune system, and has an antitumor effect.

The treatment regimen is determined by the attending physician. It is prohibited to use the drug for severe diseases of the heart, kidneys and liver, chronic hepatitis, dysfunction of the central nervous system. The drug is not used in children under 3 years of age due to possible anaphylactic reactions and death.

Isoprinosine

Isoprinosine tablets are made from inosine pranobex. Prescribed for papillomatosis to normalize cellular immunity. They have an antiviral effect by preventing the virus from multiplying.

The dose depends on the patient’s condition, his body weight and the course of the disease and is calculated based on 50 mg per kilogram of body weight.

Contraindications: hypersensitivity to ingredients, gout, hyperuricemia.

The modern pharmacological industry has developed many drugs to get rid of human papillomavirus infection. The use of suppositories increases the effectiveness of complex treatment, having a direct effect on the site of the lesion. Thanks to the variety of options, a competent specialist will help you choose the most suitable option, taking into account all the individual characteristics of the body.

Rules of application

After prescribing suppositories for papillomavirus infection, the patient should study the method of use. Failure to follow the simple rules specified in the instructions will call into question the healing process.

  1. Wash your hands thoroughly before vaginal or rectal administration.
  2. Wear a sterile disposable glove (the presence of microcracks on the hands can cause re-infection after contact with infected skin).
  3. Lie on your side, spread your buttocks, insert the suppository into the anus 6-7 cm.
  4. When inserting into the vagina, lie on your back and insert a suppository.

Recovery prognosis

The use of suppositories cannot provide a full systemic effect, so treatment of papillomavirus infection must be carried out comprehensively. This is the only way to suppress the activity of the pathogen and eliminate clinical manifestations. Modern medicine is not yet capable of completely destroying a cellular parasite. Therefore, an infected person must monitor the state of their immunity throughout their life. Infection with oncogenic strains requires closer attention to your health.

ethnoscience

Healing suppositories that have a general strengthening effect can be made independently. To do this you need to use the following recipe.

  1. Melt 20 grams of cocoa butter in a water bath.
  2. Then propolis extract is added to it.
  3. Everything is thoroughly mixed and poured into foil molds.

In order to make the molds, you need to cut rectangles measuring 5x7cm from foil, then wrap them around a pencil with a pointed end. Then the pencil is carefully removed, the pointed end is broken, and the mass of the prepared product is poured into the container. The molds with the product are placed in the refrigerator, after the candles have hardened, they can be used for their intended purpose (the foil can be removed quite easily).
