A joint is an articulation of bones of a certain type that provides the ability to perform various movements. The joint of the bones has its own cartilaginous capsule, inside of which there is synovial fluid. The heads of the bones entering the joint are covered with a dense layer of cartilage tissue, which is capable of absorbing and releasing synovial fluid. There is no bare bone tissue in the joint in normal condition.
But it can appear if the cartilaginous synovial layer is destroyed. This provokes the appearance of growths on the joints - bone calluses, with the help of which the body strives to restore the damaged integrity of the heads of the bones.
Very often, hard growths on the joints of the fingers and toes are a consequence of developing deforming osteoarthritis. But no less rarely, such a symptom signals another dangerous disease - rheumatoid polyarthritis. This pathology is systemic in nature and can provoke the destruction of heart valves and form their defects.
Bone growths on joints can be osteophytes or exostoses, have a dense structure consisting of calcium and phosphorus salts, or contain fibrin and cartilaginous fibers. The structure of the growth can be determined using an x-ray image. If in the image the neoplasm looks the same as the surrounding bone tissue, then it is an osteophyte or callus. If the neoplasm tissue is sparse and less dense in structure, then most likely it is osteochondral exostosis. At an early stage, it is quite easy to treat conservatively.
Wart on a child’s elbow: what it looks like (PHOTOS) and how to get rid of it

Update date: April 2020
An ugly wart on the elbow not only negatively affects a person’s appearance, but also brings significant discomfort to him. This is because the growths in this area are easily injured by clothing or any object.
Medicine has not yet learned to completely remove the HPV virus from the body, which causes the formation of warts on the body.
But she offers effective treatments aimed at removing warts and preventing their recurrence.
Types of warts on the elbow
Warts on the elbows are benign growths on the skin caused by the human papillomavirus.
There is a whole classification of warts that can form on the surface of the elbow under the influence of the HPV (human papillomavirus) virus infection. Neoplasms of different types differ from each other in appearance and cause of formation. The following types of growths on the elbows are diagnosed:
- Flat warts. They are also commonly called juvenile ones, since in most cases they appear on the upper extremities of children and adolescents. New growths are characterized by a fairly smooth surface. Out of ignorance, they can easily be confused with ordinary pimples, since they have a similar shade.
Flat warts, if their integrity is not broken, never hurt. They also do not lead to discomfort during contact with any surfaces. The neoplasm can rise above the skin by a maximum of 2 mm.
- Common, or vulgar, warts. This is the most common type of viral tumor. Vulgar growths can rise above the surface of the skin of the elbow by 2 mm or more. They can be recognized by their rough structure and a significant degree of keratinization of the upper layers. The growths are colored pink, yellow or light brown.
- Senile (keratomas). Such warts in the elbow area are not caused by papillomavirus, but by age-related changes in the structure of the human skin. Therefore, they usually appear on the body of elderly people. This type of neoplasm has a soft consistency and flaky surface. It is painted predominantly dark brown, brown, and black.
The elbow warts listed above belong to the group of benign formations. Therefore, they are considered safe for human health.
But one should not exclude the possibility of the growth degenerating into a cancerous tumor in the distant future.
To prevent this process, it is necessary to carefully monitor the wart and, if obvious changes in its appearance appear, immediately contact a specialist.
Causes
Condylomas and other types of warts form on the body of a person who has been infected with HPV. Papilloma occurs in the most vulnerable place. It could very well be the elbow.
The main reason for the appearance of warts on the body is infection with papillomavirus. If the growths are localized in the elbow area, then this area has previously been injured. Through open microcracks in the skin, the pathogen was able to enter the body. Therefore, after activation, first of all, it strikes the most vulnerable spot.
Quite often, a wart on the elbow that requires treatment occurs in children. This is due to increased physical activity: during games, children often injure their upper limbs, scratch or rip off the skin covering them. The occurrence of similar injuries in adults cannot be ruled out.
Not every person has the presence of papillomavirus immediately manifested by the formation of warts on the body. The development of benign growths can be facilitated by certain factors that negatively affect the health of those infected, reducing the body's defenses.
These factors include:
- bad habits;
- excessive physical activity;
- stressful conditions;
- nervous exhaustion;
- diabetes mellitus, etc.
People exposed to these factors are most at risk of developing benign growths in the elbow area.
Diagnostics
The dermatologist will prescribe the necessary treatment based on the general diagnosis of the wart.
A patient who has a wart growing on his elbow is diagnosed based on the clinical manifestations of the tumor. In rare cases, a biopsy is required.
A dermatologist recognizes a wart by its characteristic features, namely the absence of a skin pattern, the presence of black spots and the development of bleeding if the upper layer of the tumor is injured.
If necessary, the patient is sent for PCR analysis.
In most clinics, consultation with a doctor and diagnostics are paid. A visit to a dermatologist costs an average patient 300 rubles. Research is paid separately. Traditional PCR analysis usually costs 700 rubles or more.
How to get rid of warts on elbow?
The use of folk remedies is recommended to be applied strictly to the affected area so as not to injure healthy skin
People who encounter benign tumors for the first time do not always know how to get rid of a wart that has grown on the elbow. A competent dermatologist who diagnoses and removes unpleasant growths on the surface of the body can choose an effective treatment method.
Children and adults are offered a medicinal course of treatment. It helps eliminate warty growths. Warts on a child's elbows can also be removed using modern surgical procedures. This method of therapy is recommended not only for small but also for adult patients.
Traditional treatment
You can remove a wart at home using traditional methods of treatment. The patient must be aware that such therapy cannot completely replace medical or surgical removal of the tumor. Therefore, it makes sense to use folk remedies only as an auxiliary way to combat papilloma.
It is strongly recommended that pregnant women, nursing mothers, children and people with acute or chronic diseases refrain from treatment with folk remedies. Before starting the course, you should consult your doctor.
For decades, people have been getting rid of benign growths on their elbows using the following traditional medicine:
- Fresh garlic. You only need a few cloves of the spicy plant. They are cleaned and thoroughly crushed. It is advisable to dilute the finished pulp with a small portion of oil. In this form, garlic is applied to the wart. It is fixed on top with a plaster or bandage. After applying the composition, a slight burning or tingling sensation may be felt. This is a normal reaction that should not be alarmed.
- Fresh onions. A small onion must be peeled and finely chopped. It is transferred to a clean container and filled with apple cider vinegar. The onion needs to be marinated in it for 3 hours. During this time, the vegetable will be well saturated with acetic acid. When softened, the onion is applied to problematic growths on the elbow. The compress must be kept for no more than 2 hours. Afterwards it is removed and the skin is thoroughly washed with warm water.
- Laundry soap. The main ingredient must be grated and then mixed with apple cider vinegar. You need to take enough vinegar to cover the soap shavings. This mixture needs to be simmered over low heat for a couple of minutes until it boils. Once the remedy has cooled, it can be applied to the wart. The mass is fixed on top with a bandage. It is left on the skin for 5 hours.
It is recommended to carry out such procedures using folk remedies daily. It is best to continue the course of treatment until the wart in the elbow area falls off on its own.
When treating with folk remedies, you need to avoid getting them on healthy areas of the skin, since aggressive components can lead to severe injury.
Medications
Elbow warts can be treated using conservative methods. Adults and children are treated this way. The goal of the medication course is not only to eliminate the tumor, but also to suppress the active spread of the viral infection throughout the body. To achieve this result, use:
- General strengthening agents.
- Immunomodulatory drugs.
- Antiviral drugs.
- Antibiotics.
- Vitamin complexes.
- Ointments and gels.
- Solutions based on salicylic acid.
- Pencils.
- Plasters.
For each patient, the dermatologist individually selects the most optimal treatment package.
Surgical methods
Doctors recommend removing a wart if it is subject to frequent injury.
Small and large warts that have grown on the elbow can be removed using surgical treatments. Their essence lies in the radical removal of viral formation. A doctor may recommend to his patient the following options for removing papillomas on the elbow:
- laser cauterization (700 rubles);
- treatment with liquid nitrogen (230 rubles);
- electrocoagulation (500 rubles);
- radio wave therapy (500 rubles);
- removal in the traditional way (using a scalpel). It is used rarely, in complicated cases.
Above is the approximate cost of a medical procedure in domestic clinics. Each type of operation has its own advantages and disadvantages. It is worth familiarizing yourself with them in the process of choosing a suitable technique. If a person does not know what will suit him best, he can always ask his doctor this question.

Home methods
How to get rid of warts at home? There are several options for home therapy:
One of the most effective ways to remove elbow warts is celandine juice. The orange substance, which is released from the torn leaves and stems of the plant, is used to treat the affected area daily in the morning and evening. After just ten days, you can see the effective result of this treatment - the warts will begin to dry out, decrease in size and disappear.
At any pharmacy you can buy a drug with celandine extract - Super celandine. This product must be used very carefully, as it has a cauterizing effect. It is applied purely to the surface of the growth, bypassing healthy areas of the skin.
You can use the old fashioned method - rub a warty white or pink growth on your elbow with half an apple or potato. Then put both parts of the fruit or vegetable together, tie it up and bury it somewhere on the site. Once they rot, the warts will fall off on their own.
Treatment of elbow papillomas with home methods will be much more effective in combination with taking preventive medications that enhance immunity. These are immunomodulators that normalize the functioning of the immune system.
What does a wart on the elbow look like and should it be removed?
Wart on the elbow - where does it come from? Even if you haven't had warts, that doesn't mean you won't get them in the future. Once you catch the papilloma virus, the cause of the disease, you will never get rid of it! How to understand that you have a wart and what to do? Should I let it go or see a doctor? Should I delete it or will it go away on its own?
Causes of warts on the elbow
There is a myth that if you touch a toad, warts will appear. In fact, frogs and toads are not related to the disease. More often , growths appear in children. The causes of its appearance are injuries to the elbow, through which the virus enters the human body. And children injure their elbows more often than adults. Adults also get cracks and scratches. To prevent papilloma from getting into the wound, you should avoid:
- contact with a sick person,
- common areas,
- common items with the patient.
The fact that a person is infected with papillomavirus is not always noticeable, however, it is present in almost 90% of the population. But the virus does not immediately manifest itself in the form of skin growths in all people. Activations are often facilitated by:
- decreased immunity due to illness,
- diabetes,
- bad habits,
- physical exercise,
- stress, nervous exhaustion.
If you do find an unpleasant growth on your elbow, try not to injure the wart. To protect against injury there are special bandages and bandages. Do not neglect brilliant green, iodine or hydrogen peroxide to treat the problem area. These simple medications can protect against further spread of the disease.
Maintain personal hygiene, do not overwork, do not be nervous, and take care of your health.
What do warts on elbows look like?
How often do we examine our elbows? And this is one of the easiest ways to notice a wart. Even if you look in the mirror every day, your elbows are not visible in the reflection. Because of this, the onset of the disease is usually missed. After all, at the first stage, the growths do not cause pain, do not itch or appear. And to treat warts, it is important to notice their appearance at an early stage.
In appearance, warts are dense grayish or pale pink bumps. At the beginning they are small, but are able to grow. And then it’s hard not to notice them. Sometimes the color of the growth does not differ from the color of the skin. The growth can be rough or smooth. Often resembles calluses or moles.
Don’t be lazy to examine your hands once a month!
Should warts on elbows be removed?
Even if the growth does not cause concern, the wart does not look beautiful in appearance. Whether to delete it or not is up to you. It happens that the tumor goes away on its own.
In this case, you may not notice the appearance of a wart. This happens in 50% of cases. If you still find an unnatural bump on your elbow, you should consult a dermatologist.
The doctor will advise whether it is necessary to get rid of the growth. Warts should be removed if:
- They cause pain, itching, burning.
- They increase in size.
- New formations appear nearby.
- They change color and blood begins to ooze.
- The place where the wart is located is constantly injured.
- For aesthetic reasons
Before removal, you should consult a dermatologist. The doctor will conduct tests and, if necessary, prescribe treatment
Treatment of elbow warts
A wart on the elbow is treated in three ways:
- Surgical route.
- Using creams, ointments; laser or cold.
- In folk ways.
If the wart is large, removal occurs surgically. The doctor disinfects and numbs the affected area, cuts out the growth with a scalpel, and sews up the incision. Surgery is one of the most effective treatments.
There are practically no contraindications for the operation. Pregnant women and people during viral infections should not undergo surgery.
You can get rid of trouble in one procedure! The only drawback is that a scar remains at the site of removal.
Removing warts using ointments, creams, as well as laser or cryotherapy are non-surgical treatment methods. The advantage of the methods is that there are no scars after treatment.
Laser removal is a rather painful procedure. But after laser treatment, the wart disappears after 4-5 days.
Cryotherapy is simply freezing the growth with liquid nitrogen. Diseased cells simply die and fall off after a few days. A painless way.
There are quite a lot of ointments or creams for treatment. Dermatologists prescribe:
- Viferon,
- Panavir,
- Oksolin,
- Acyclovir,
- Vishnevsky ointment,
- Salicylic acid,
- Lapis pencil.
The disadvantage of such treatment is that it can take a long time. Requires daily application of ointments to the affected area.
Traditional methods are chosen by those who do not like to go to doctors or are afraid of surgical procedures.
There are many plants in nature that can treat warts, but celandine takes first place! When you were a child, didn’t you smear wounds and warts with celandine? The yellow juice of the herb, due to its chemical composition, treats all types of warts.
This plant is found everywhere. On the basis of celandine, ointments are made that can be used in winter, when the plant is not available. It should be used with caution - the juice can cause burns.
Aloe is another medicinal plant. There is an aloe bush on every housewife's windowsill. The treatment is simple - drop the juice onto the wart. We are waiting for her to die.
Healers also use Kalanchoe, garlic, vinegar, ash and salt. There is a whole list of folk recipes based on these drugs.
Whatever treatment method you choose, know that all methods have contraindications. Treatment is best carried out under the supervision of a dermatologist.
Any skin tumor must be treated. Waiting for it to go away on its own is stupid. A wart on the elbow or on any other part of the skin is the first sign that the body is not in order. The worst thing about a growth is that it can develop into a serious disease - incurable skin cancer.

Routes of infection
When the papilloma virus enters the human body, the lower layers of the epidermis become its localization site. The incubation period of the disease ranges from a week to several years.
HPV is detected in the mucous membrane and skin of a person, without affecting other organs. Once activated, HPV begins to multiply rapidly. Mature cells enlarge and move towards the surface of the skin. This is how growths are created. After this, a person can infect another, he is a carrier of the disease.
Transmission routes
In addition, a damaged papilloma can be infectious, since the blood released from it is infected and contains HPV. This can happen due to the fact that the skin of a person’s intimate parts is more delicate and thin, and is more easily susceptible to infection.
It is not particularly difficult for the virus to penetrate the delicate tissues of a person’s intimate parts. The more often and more intensely the contact with an infected person occurs, the higher the risk of acquiring HPV.
Stories from our readers!” For a long time I experienced discomfort from dandruff and hair loss. Standard shampoos helped, but the effect was short-term. This complex was recommended by a friend who used it herself. Excellent tool!
The skin stopped itching, the hair combed well and was not so greasy. The loss stopped fairly quickly. I couldn’t even dream of such an effect! I recommend."
The causative agent of the disease is HPV, which can enter the body in several ways:
- The process of obstetrics. If papillomas are observed on the butt, then there is reason to believe that the infection occurred during childbirth. The expectant mother was a carrier of the virus throughout her pregnancy. Regardless of whether the birth was natural or a cesarean section was performed, infection is possible in both cases.
- Household contact. Infection is possible both through the use of personal hygiene items by others and in places of high humidity. It must be emphasized that the virus thrives in a humid environment, so it can be picked up in a swimming pool, public bath, or sauna.
- Intimate relationships. Also, one of the ways of transmitting the virus is sexual intercourse. Penetration of infection through mucous surfaces is faster. If a partner has papillomas in the intimate area, infection occurs in 100% of cases.
One of the ways of transmitting HPV is through sexual intercourse!
It is also necessary to note the fact of self-infection. If an adult knows that he has an infection on the surface of his buttocks, but does not in any way interfere with its further functioning, then the virus may spread throughout the body. To do this, it is enough to spread the infection throughout the skin using a towel.
How to get rid of warts on elbow
A wart on the elbow is one of the types of formations that appear due to a person being infected with the papilloma virus. It is not localized in this place as often as on the fingers or toes, but it still occurs from time to time. That is why you need to know how to cure it at home and what to do if suddenly certain difficulties arise.
What do warts on the elbow look like?
Photo of warts on elbow
A wart on the elbow looks like a small bump that rises above the skin. At an early stage, there is a spot in this place, which then gradually increases in size. After some time, a growth appears here, which may be pigmented.
On average, the size of warts on the elbow is 0.5 cm. Here they occur mainly in single quantities. These growths have an uneven shape with rounded edges and a rough surface. Its color ranges from flesh-colored to brown and depends on the age of the formation: the longer it is on the body, the darker it becomes.
Two types of warts most often appear on the elbows, and the first of them is juvenile. Such growths grow very quickly and, if not properly treated, can affect neighboring areas. In most cases, children face such problems. Another type of these growths is seborrheic, otherwise called senile. This is due to the fact that they usually occur in older people.
In rare cases, vulgar warts and condylomas form on the elbow; the latter are rightfully classified as such formations. Regardless of their type, a person quite often experiences discomfort due to the unfortunate location of these growths.
If there is a negative impact on the wart on the elbow, it becomes possible to damage it. If the integrity is compromised, an infection can penetrate through the wounds, which can lead to inflammation, redness and itching of the skin. As a result, there is often a desire to comb problem areas.
If a wart on the elbow is damaged, then it is quite logical that blood will appear. As a result, the growth may be deformed, and then its boundaries and structure will change. All this is sometimes accompanied by unpleasant sensations in the form of burning and even pain.
Which doctor should I contact?
Which medical specialist should be contacted when a papilloma is detected depends on the areas of the body where the growths appear.
List of doctors:
- see a dermatologist - papillomas are found on the body;
- see a gynecologist - growths have formed on the female genital organs;
- see a urologist - formations are located on the genitals of men;
- see a proctologist for anal papillomas.
A person who discovers a tumor on any part of his body should visit a local physician, who will correctly identify a specialized medical specialist.
Warts on the elbow causes and treatment
An ugly wart on the elbow not only negatively affects a person’s appearance, but also brings significant discomfort to him. This is because the growths in this area are easily injured by clothing or any object.
Medicine has not yet learned to completely remove the HPV virus from the body, which causes the formation of warts on the body.
But she offers effective treatments aimed at removing warts and preventing their recurrence.
Surgical intervention
Modern medical centers and clinics offer several effective procedures to get rid of warts on the elbow:
Cryodestruction
This method involves removing growths using a special substance – liquid nitrogen. Under the influence of microscopic ice crystals, the surface of the keratinized growth is cauterized and completely removed. A crust appears at the treatment site, which disappears after a few days, and the skin is completely restored.
Radio wave treatment
Removal of benign formations on the elbow occurs using a special device - a radio wave knife. Before the procedure, the treatment area is numbed. Radio wave excision eliminates the risk of relapse, which is why this method is recognized as one of the best.
Electrocoagulation
This is an old, proven method of removing elbow growths using a coagulator. The device contains a special thread-like metal loop, which is supplied with high-frequency alternating current. This procedure for excision of growths is performed under anesthesia. The number of sessions depends on the size of the growth. After such manipulation, the excision sites are treated with antiseptic drugs.
The wounds heal within ten days. Pink spots remain at the treatment site, which disappear over time and transform into healthy tissue.
Electrocoagulation is carried out using a loop through which current is passed.
Laser excision
A modern, painless and effective procedure for treating warts on the elbows. Removal is carried out using a laser beam. After this procedure, the risk of relapse is zero.
How to treat a wart on the elbow
An ugly and troublesome wart on the elbow appears, like all other similar neoplasms, during the period of virus activation. Unfortunately, modern medicine cannot remove the virus. But it is possible to get rid of such formations. Only this should be done under the supervision of a dermatologist.
general description
An elbow wart is a vulgar type of papilloma - it is a growth with a clearly defined edge that can spread to adjacent tissues. Such formations do not cause pain. With mechanical damage, a wart on the elbow can develop into a cancerous tumor.
A wart on the elbow looks like a small nodule. Its color most often does not differ from the natural color of the patient’s skin. The surface of an elbow wart may be smooth or rough. Mostly 1 or 2 formations occur. However, there are known cases of multiple occurrence of these neoplasms.
A wart on the elbow appears frequently because this area of the arm is often injured. After accidental blows, collisions, etc., small abrasions, cracks, and scratches appear on the elbow, into which various types of infection easily penetrate.
A small wart on the elbow often goes away with little or no treatment when the immune system gradually recovers. The main thing is that it is not exposed to any irritating influences. It can be:
- injury;
- exposure to chemicals;
- friction against various objects;
- irritation from synthetic fabrics.
Therefore, you need to avoid all the situations described above: do not touch sharp corners with the wart, wear clothes with spacious sleeves made of natural soft fabrics, etc. If necessary, you need to apply a special bandage to the wart. This will prevent chemicals from reaching its surface, reduce friction, etc.
If accidental injuries occur, the wart must be immediately treated with such means as:
- hydrogen peroxide;
- tincture of iodine;
- solution of brilliant green (zelenka).
What is papillomavirus
A wart on the elbow, like any other, is a benign neoplasm that occurs under the influence of the papillomavirus. This virus enters the human body through direct contact (handshakes, kisses, touches) with the virus carrier. Another option for infection is sharing common household items.
The virus can remain in the body of an infected person for a long time in a dormant state, without manifesting itself in any way. During periods of virus activation, papillomas and other neoplasms begin to appear on the body.
Activation of the virus occurs under the influence of reasons such as:
- general decrease in immune defense;
- infection with other microorganisms;
- long-term use of certain types of antibiotics;
- excessive physical activity;
- stressful situations;
- general weakness after illnesses;
- abuse of alcohol, nicotine, drugs.
Treatment of warts
It is advisable to treat elbow warts using various means for local treatment, oral medications, and, in extreme cases, surgical methods. This will save you from many problems and accidental additional infections.
For oral administration when papillomavirus is activated, the following is prescribed:
- antibiotics;
- antiviral agents;
- immunomodulators;
- vitamin complexes;
- restorative drugs.
The disease that caused the activation of the papillomavirus must be cured. This will cause remission and prevent the appearance of additional tumors for a certain period of time.
For local treatment of warts and papillomas, the doctor may prescribe such remedies as:
- ointments, gels, medicinal creams;
- lapis pencil;
- solution of retinoic, trichloroacetic, salicylic acid;
- special medical plaster.
It is undesirable and even dangerous to use all these means without consulting a specialist. After all, they have contraindications.
Surgery
Surgical removal of warts should only be performed in specialized medical institutions. The special equipment available in such clinics will allow you to choose the optimal method of wart removal in a particular case. It could be:
- laser cauterization;
- electrocoagulation;
- a liquid nitrogen;
- exposure to radio waves;
- excision with surgical instruments.
Each method has its pros and cons, which must be taken into account during the preparatory period.
Traditional medicine for the treatment of warts
Freshly prepared juice of the celandine herb has long been recognized as the main means of removing warts in alternative medicine. It must be applied to the surface of the tumor with great care. If juice gets on intact tissue, it can cause severe burns. Therefore, before applying celandine juice to healthy surfaces around the wart, you need to apply a rich cream.
Therapeutic gruel for treating warts is prepared from the following ingredients:
Pass a clove of garlic through a press, add a few drops of vinegar and mix in a little flour. The resulting product should be thick.
It is applied over the wart at night after evening hygiene procedures. A protective bandage or adhesive plaster is applied over the pulp.
In the morning, the bandage should be carefully removed and the keratinized layer of skin should be removed with a scraper or pumice stone. The procedure must be carried out daily until the wart is completely dry.
For a medicinal bath, you can use an infusion of thyme. The elbow is immersed in it for 30 - 60 minutes. After the bath, you need to blot your hand with a clean napkin and apply softened propolis over the wart for a quarter of an hour.
All folk remedies must be used only with the permission of a doctor.
Strict adherence to hygiene rules and preventive standards will help to avoid the appearance of elbow warts.

Prevention
It has long been known that it is better to prevent the occurrence of a disease than to treat it. Following simple rules will help keep HPV in a “dormant” state throughout your life.
To do this you need:
- observe basic rules of daily personal hygiene, paying special attention to the cleanliness of the genitals and anus;
- have regular and trusted sexual partners (streamline your intimate life), avoid promiscuity;
- try to lead a healthy lifestyle: stop smoking and drinking, eat right;
- be attentive to your health;
- avoid stressful situations;
- constantly monitor the symptoms of the disease;
- follow all recommendations of the attending physician;
- strengthen the immune system.
Wart on elbow
A wart on the elbow can appear in a child or an adult. More often they occur in children, while for adults other localizations are more typical: face, genitals, hands.
Hypertrophic warts on the elbows are most often caused by HPV types 2, 4 or 7.
Flat warts are caused by types 3 and 10.
In most cases, these formations are not dangerous.
They can go away in a few years even without treatment, as the immune system develops antibodies to the virus and gets rid of it.
Occasionally, a wart degenerates into squamous cell skin cancer.
If the patient comes 2 years or more after its appearance on the elbow, a biopsy is required to exclude malignant degeneration.
Warts on the elbows of a child
In children, warts are much more common in atypical areas.
During games, they come into contact with each other with a wide variety of body parts.
Therefore, viruses can infect any area of the skin.
Warts can appear in a wide variety of places.
But for the skin to become infected with the papilloma virus, there must be microdamages on it.
There are often microcracks in the skin on the elbows.
Children get abrasions and scratches there.
This is the entrance gate for human papillomavirus infection.
For the virus to invade the skin, it must penetrate the basal cells of the epithelium.
Replication occurs in stratified squamous epithelium.
The peak incidence of warts occurs between the ages of 12 and 16 years.
For children, the incubation period may be shorter than for adults.
It ranges from 1 to 6 months.
What warts on a child's elbows look like depends on what type of virus he has become infected with.
In total, there are more than 150 types that can infect humans.
A child's wart can be removed in a clinic.
If it is not removed, then in most cases the formation spontaneously regresses after an average of 2 years.
Occasionally, warts on the elbows exist permanently, and can even increase in size.
This is possible in children with immunodeficiency conditions.
Signs of a wart
The wart looks similar to many other formations that can appear on the elbows.
But it has some distinctive signs by which the doctor is able to understand that it is a wart and not something else.
What they can be:
- gray
- brown
- semicircular
- rough
- keratinized
In children, they appear very often not only on the elbows, but also on the knees, soles and near the nails.
A distinctive feature of a wart is the many black dots on its surface.
They are small capillaries clogged with blood clots.
Sometimes thread-like warts form.
These are finger-like projections that may be flesh-colored.
Located on a narrow or wide base.
Children often have flat warts on the elbows.
They usually appear at the site of an abrasion.
They appear as pink, yellow or brown papules.
They rise minimally above the level of the skin or are located flush with it.
Warts are no more than 1-3 mm in height.
Either one formation or several at once may appear on the elbow.
Flat warts are usually distributed throughout the area of skin damage.
For example, if there was a scratch on the elbow, they are located linearly.
Flat warts do not give any subjective sensations.
But they do not respond well to conservative treatment and do not go away for a long time.
Provoking factors
The strength of immunity depends on many conditions. The decrease in the patient’s body’s defenses is facilitated by:
- prolonged exposure to low temperatures;
- injuries of various types;
- psycho-emotional stress;
- hard physical labor;
- bad habits (alcoholism, smoking);
- infections of viral, bacterial, fungal etiology;
- pregnancy and lactation;
- malignant tumor processes;
- endocrine diseases;
- use of certain medications (hormones, antibiotics, cytostatic drugs).
The likelihood of infection is additionally influenced by a number of provoking factors.
There may be several predisposing factors that facilitate the penetration of HPV into epithelial cells.
Removal
Today, the following methods of getting rid of skin growths are used:
- Papillomas are often removed with a laser. The neoplasm is simply burned out, and in its place a dry crust is formed that heals for a long time.
- The radio wave removal method is the most effective and less traumatic compared to other methods. The essence of the method is as follows: a beam of high-frequency radio waves is sent to the desired location, which begins to generate heat and remove only modified pathological tissue formations.
- Electrocoagulation is used not only to remove growths, but also to biopsy their tissue. High temperatures are used for removal. At the same time, the effect on healthy tissue is minimal.
- Cryotherapy. The growths are simply frozen out due to exposure to low temperatures. Despite the fact that papillomas die off after such exposure, scars may remain on the skin. Tissue necrosis is also possible.
- Applications with acid solutions. This method is less popular due to its high cost and relatively low efficiency.
- Surgical removal is used only to get rid of large formations and those that are localized in hard-to-reach places. Disadvantages of the technique: the need for pain relief, traumatic.
Attention! Treatment tactics and the method of removing any skin tumor should be chosen only by a specialist after conducting tests and examinations to determine whether the growth is malignant or benign.
Skin growths on their own very rarely go away. More often they tend to gradually increase in size. Their number may also increase, that is, more and more new papillomas appear. And cancerous neoplasms, if treated incorrectly or without it, can lead to death.
