Chamomile is widely used in folk medicine to treat acne and eliminate pimples, both on the face and on any part of the body. It is also used in cosmetology to prevent the appearance of unwanted rashes on the skin, and is used either as the main remedy or as a component of a therapeutic complex. Baths, masks, scrubs, creams, lotions are made with chamomile, and sometimes they even drink it to ease the severity of acne.

Despite the fact that chamomile is not able to influence the causes of acne, it can reduce their severity.

This use of the plant helps to reduce the severity of acne to some extent, and in some cases, prevent the spread of skin rashes and even get rid of acne completely.

However, chamomile-based preparations will not provide immediate results after one use. This is due both to the specificity of their action and to the characteristics of acne itself in each individual patient. Therefore, you can count on one or another effect of chamomile in the fight against acne only by understanding the principle of its action and the cause of acne itself.

  • eliminates pathogenic microflora;
  • strengthens local immunity;

Attention! Chamomile has long established itself as one of the most effective remedies used to treat acne.

What do you need to remember?

There are several requirements of alternative medicine that are recommended to be remembered before starting treatment for rashes. Following these rules will help you avoid unpleasant complications and achieve positive results:

  • before starting a course of traditional treatment, consult a doctor, find out the cause of acne formation - if the rashes are caused by serious diseases, you will first have to undergo a course of drug therapy;
  • use only high-quality plant raw materials in treatment, collected and dried in accordance with the requirements of traditional medicine for the preparation of plant components; if it is not possible to make a valuable supply of herbs yourself, purchase chamomile at a pharmacy;
  • refuse dangerous experiments - adding herbal ingredients, exceeding the dosage, changing the method of preparing homemade medicine, such actions will result in unpleasant complications;
  • conduct a preliminary test of the prepared home medicine - side effects should cause refusal of treatment, use of another herbal remedy of alternative medicine.

Another rule is that if even after several weeks of treatment there are no results, the acne remains unchanged, immediately see a specialist again. It is recommended to undergo a medical examination to diagnose the disease that triggered the formation of acne.

Chamomile is a simple plant that never ceases to amaze with its many benefits. In the treatment of acne, the herb will quickly provide positive results - it will cleanse the skin, improve the general condition of the dermis, and saturate it with useful elements.

The only thing doctors warn about is that you should not rely on the power of the plant if the defects are caused by serious illnesses. Drug therapy will be more effective; it is better to use herbal tinctures and decoctions as adjuncts.

  • chamomile – 3 tbsp. l.;
  • wild mallow – 3 tbsp. l.;
  • marshmallow - 3 tbsp. l.;
  • sweet clover - 3 tbsp. l.

Brew two tablespoons of the mixture with 0.5 liters of water. Heat in a water bath for a quarter of an hour. Strain and soak cotton swabs in the hot solution, apply to the pimples, and fix. Do it once at night.

Chamomile lotion

Lotions are prepared in a variety of ways. Perhaps someone will decide to use their own recipe, adapted to individual skin characteristics and their own preferences.

The plant is a good natural antiseptic. It is advisable to wipe your face with lotion before going to bed, as chamomile soothes the skin and heals it. Do not wash it off immediately, but do it better in the morning.

The following components will be needed:

  • milk – 0.25 cups;
  • chamomile infusion - the same.

Brew a tablespoon of raw material with half a glass of boiling water and leave for 20 minutes. Mix the strained solution and milk. The lotion can be frozen in the form of ice cubes and wiped over your face, this will additionally tone the skin.

A good anti-acne lotion can be obtained by combining the healing properties of chamomile and St. John's wort. For preparation you will need:

  • St. John's wort decoction – 120 g;
  • chamomile decoction – 30 g;
  • vodka – 30 g;
  • glycerin – 10 g.

Mix everything thoroughly.

Another version of acne lotion is prepared on the basis of dry white wine. The acid contained in it tightens pores, reduces oiliness, and alcohol eliminates harmful bacteria. In addition, white wine perfectly whitens the skin, making it lighter and cleaner. This property of the drink has been noticed for a long time. Beauties of the 18th and 19th centuries used it for washing, bathing, hair care and other cosmetic needs.

Chamomile masks

There are many different recipes for facial skin care based on the plant. Chamomile infusion for the face against acne can be used as part of masks. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties of flowers are ideally suited for these purposes.

A chamomile face mask for acne is easy to prepare. It’s easy to make a chamomile infusion according to the usual recipe: 2 tablespoons of herbs to 1 cup of boiling water. Pour the white of a chicken egg into it, after beating it. Add a little lemon juice. Mix everything and apply to face. Make masks no more than once a week.

To tone flabby and aging skin, mix the infusion of the plant with honey (1 teaspoon), a drop of almond oil, and yolk. Moisten the gauze in the resulting solution, apply it to the face, after making holes in the fabric that touch the area of the eyes and mouth. The infusion is prepared at the rate of 2 tablespoons of inflorescences per 200 ml of boiling water.

Some women develop a dark red capillary network on their face. This happens if blood circulation in the upper layers of the skin is impaired. Chamomile is used quite successfully for rosacea on the face.

Ingredients:

  • yolk – 1 pc.;
  • vegetable oil (any) – 1 tsp;
  • chamomile extract – 1 tsp.

After applying the mask, rinse off with tea solution after 15 minutes.

Chamomile ice

You need to wipe your skin with ice only after morning facial hygiene and cleansing. Otherwise, the desired effect may not be achieved.

Brew the flowers, pass the solution through a filter, pour into molds. The cosmetic ice is ready. To enhance the effect, in addition to chamomile, you can add celandine, calendula, St. John's wort, and any other herbs with an anti-inflammatory effect to the acne decoction.

Important! It is better for women with oily skin to use ice regularly.

The product blocks the functions of the sebaceous glands, which significantly dries out the skin. Therefore, for dry and normal types, it is undesirable to use excessive ice. If the skin is too thin, ice can also harm it, causing the appearance of rosacea.

Chamomile tincture

You can use a pharmacy chamomile tincture for acne, or someone might want to prepare the medicine themselves. At home, if desired, you can increase the concentration of active ingredients and adjust the alcohol content.

Ingredients:

  • alcohol solution 20% - 100 ml;
  • dried chamomile flowers – 20 g.

The cooking method is as follows. Pour the herb into a small glass container and add alcohol-containing liquid. Shake and leave in a dark storage for a week. Then filter and use to wipe the skin of the face from acne. This helps the skin breathe.

Steam baths

Acne comes out quickly and easily if you take steam baths. If you don’t have a steam inhaler at home, you can treat yourself the old fashioned way using a small saucepan. Boil water, add herbs and close the lid for a couple of minutes to infuse. Then cover your head with a towel and bend over the steam.

Ingredients:

  • water – 1 l;
  • chamomile – 2 tbsp. l.

Important! Steam baths perfectly cleanse and moisturize facial skin, ideal for dry skin types. They are more useful in the summer, when sebum, sweat and dust mix into a composition that clogs the pores.

Chamomile oil

The ancient Greeks learned how to prepare oil infused with chamomile flowers. You can get the medicine in two ways:

  • hot;
  • cold.

In the first case, the raw material is filled with oily liquid (1:2) and heated in a water bath for 2 hours. Strain and use on the face. If you need to get oil of a stronger concentration, pour the resulting solution into the next portion of fresh raw material, and again heat it well and for a long time, without bringing it to a boil.

The second method is more gentle, allows you to preserve the maximum of nutrients, but requires a significant investment of time. Pour the raw material with oil in the same proportions as in the previous case. Leave in a jar in the light for 2 weeks. Then filter the solution, remove sediment and various impurities.

Chamomile cream

Chamomile tea can be used to make a medicinal ointment for acne. It's very simple. It is enough to combine the oil extract or dry crushed raw materials with wax (1:4) and mix well. Then hold in a water bath until the wax completely melts. Chamomile cream is prepared a little differently. As a rule, it consists of:

  • oil extract of inflorescences;
  • beeswax (paraffin, petroleum jelly);
  • emulsifier (egg yolk, lecithin).

Combine the wax with an oil extract (1:4), which can be replaced with powdered inflorescences. Heat in a water bath until the mixture becomes liquid. Then add emulsifier (1:4) and heat until thickened, stirring all the time.

Taking chamomile internally

In dermatology, for the treatment of certain diseases, doctors prescribe chamomile infusion to be taken orally. Cases may be like this:

  • eczema;
  • pruritus;
  • neurodermatitis;
  • hives;
  • lichen planus.

This is due to the fact that the plant acts on the affected organ from the inside. The main active substance, chamazulene, has the following effects on the body:

  • anti-inflammatory;
  • improves metabolic reactions;
  • has an antiallergic effect;
  • acts as an anesthetic.

When acne appears, the plant helps cleanse the blood and liver. It has a pronounced antiseptic and antibacterial orientation.

Procurement rules

To prepare homemade chamomile-based cosmetics, you will need dry inflorescences of this plant. You can purchase them at the pharmacy or assemble them yourself. If you choose the latter option, pay attention to the following details:

  • flowers are collected for drying from May to the first days of September;
  • the ideal time for harvesting is a hot afternoon (morning and evening with dew, as well as rainy weather, are absolutely not suitable);
  • Only pharmaceutical chamomile is used for medicinal purposes; it is distinguished by small inflorescences, needle-shaped leaves reminiscent of dill, and a characteristic aroma similar to the smell of apples.

The collected raw materials are laid out on newspaper in a bright room with moderate humidity and dried for 30-40 days. Afterwards, the inflorescences are placed in storage containers, where they can wait in the wings for a maximum of two years.

Chamomile contraindications and side effects

If you drink chamomile for acne in excessive quantities, you may overdose. Because of this, undesirable conditions may arise in the patient. The following disturbances appear in the body:

  • nausea, vomiting;
  • increases in blood pressure;
  • internal hemorrhage;
  • allergic manifestations, up to the most complex.

When chamomile decoction is used externally for acne, hypersensitivity of the body sometimes manifests itself in the form of skin rashes, hyperemia, and swelling.

Causes of skin problems

Problematic skin is based on complex processes, the causes of which are not always clear. Therefore, drug treatment often does not have the desired effect. Then time-tested folk remedies come to the rescue. Despite their apparent harmlessness, medicinal herbs have very powerful properties. Therefore, if you decide to use them without a doctor’s prescription, it is important to understand what lies at the root of your problem and, depending on this, select the method of use.

Among the causes that cause acne are the following:

  • Hormonal imbalances.
  • Genetic predisposition.
  • Problems in the digestive system.
  • Nervous tension, stress.
  • Allergic reactions.
  • Decreased immunity, viral diseases.

Of these factors, only genetics cannot be influenced from outside. The rest can be treated or corrected using folk remedies.

Chamomile is a plant that contains substances that can affect the causes of acne and acne and alleviate their skin manifestations.

The opinion of cosmetologists about the effectiveness of chamomile for acne

It is not for nothing that chamomile is called a pharmaceutical plant - it is widely used in official medicine and cosmetology. Dermatologists and pediatricians often prescribe aqueous and alcoholic extracts of the plant to their patients. Chamomile is considered an effective herbal remedy for acne, especially in children and adolescents.

Cosmetologists also recommend using chamomile for acne in daily facial care. It is considered to be one of the safest and most effective home remedies to keep your skin healthy. Many recipes and cosmetic procedures have been developed, the main component of which is chamomile.

How safe is this treatment?

In most cases, chamomile preparations are used externally to combat acne - they are applied to the skin in one way or another. When used in this way, the drugs are almost completely safe and do not cause any side effects, since no active components of the drug penetrate into the blood and cannot cause a generalized reaction in the body.

The only limitation to their use against acne is an allergy to chamomile or other plants of the Asteraceae family (including ragweed). If present, even washing with chamomile can cause severe rashes, allergic rhinitis and even more severe consequences, including anaphylaxis.

At least one case of death from a chamomile allergy has been documented - an 8-year-old girl who was given chamomile by her parents to treat allergic rhinitis died of anaphylactic shock. Therefore, even despite the popularity of chamomile as an anti-allergenic agent, it can only be used

It is quite simple to identify such a contraindication: the first procedure should be carried out with a small amount of the product. If there are no undesirable effects, normal amounts of the drug can then be used.

In the absence of allergies, acne can be treated with chamomile, using it externally, including in pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

In some cases, they try to treat acne by taking chamomile internally. In this case, the chamomile drug can cause a significantly larger number of side effects, including quite serious ones. For this use, chamomile is contraindicated:

  1. Pregnant women;
  2. Breastfeeding mothers;
  3. Children under 3 years old (although they almost never have to remove acne);
  4. People with a predisposition to diarrhea, as well as patients with diarrhea.
